Hey Max another option if its true about PCM and DolbyTHD on a single BD..why we cant have another option DTSHDMA and PCM

Close encounters of the third kind and 300 are good choice of different soundtrack

I hope you're not implying internal decoding of DTS-MA for the PS3 will never come...

Are there any more CES press conferences today or tomorrow related to Blu-ray or the studios?

He's already said the PS3 has to wait on another player(BD50). Once its out, i bet the PS3 will get DTSMA and BD Live.

As mentioned, there should be a solution possible, and more and more of us would like to know why that solution isn't happening and remains in constant "rumor" status. There has got to be a concrete reason why it hasn't happened yet, but none of the camps in question have offered one. Just a finitie yes it's coming or no its not would suffice, but SCEA, DTS, and the studios supporting it all remain silent and don't seem to care that it affects a huge portion of the Blu user base.

Politics eh...

That applies to BD-Live as well, I assume??

It would if they give us a firmware update with a DTS-MA decoder!

edit: Damn I'm too late this thread moves like lightning.

Glad to hear this Max, now at least I know that it's the BDA companies trying to be polite to one another, and not technical issues.

Not an insider, but why would the BDA pay Weinstien now? Like Universal, they've missed the boat for payouts, and Warner have established that payouts are not required. If Weinstein want to sell HDM, they need to adopt Blu-ray: it's just that simple.

the rumor is that the Weinstein deal was locked before the WB deal. However, Weinstein want $ to say that they now support blu-ray and then they wanted more $ to actually make blu-ray movies. The BDA refused on the later. Supposedly they already got money for basically ditching hd dvd for blu-ray (not publically yet, but soon), they are going to have a real hard time getting money now for releasing titles.

Weinstein is having financial problems if you didn't know that.

Long time reader, first time poster.

I believe the BD30 already does DTS HD MA, doesn't it? And the BD30 has been out for a while now (at least 1 month).

DTS HD MA is listed under the AUDIO section of the spec. page for the BD30 on Panasonics website.

I really want this feature for my PS3, especially since more studios have been implementing it on their discs. I hope it is possible...and fast approaching. I don't see why we have to wait for the BD50 if the BD30 (which is already on the market) does it.

by the way to our insiders, what is the validity of spartanjohnson over at HDD. He said the night of WB that Parmaount was furious and looking to get out now with an out clause, so it seems like he has some validity.

It's pretty simple Nick as Max has pointed out, it's politics for CE's. It gives the consumer a little bit of an incentive to buy a stand alone other than just the PS3 for Blu playback. Right now, if I want full lossless audio support I'd need to go buy a stand alone.

Lets say the PS3 right now goes DTS-MA and BD-Live. What reason would there be to buy stand alones from other brands that can't do what the PS3 does for the same price or cheaper (not to mention plays games, media server, etc)? This would hurt the CE's, and gives them less motivation to continue manufacturing more advanced stand alones.

The PS3 will eventually get DTS-MA, once stand alones with DTS-MA bit streaming and or on board decoding become the normal. Give it a few more months when the CE's with these capabilities are mainstream and cost about the same as a PS3.

Not primary, but a backup to the lead PCM or TrueHD track, like Close Encounters.

At the moment many titles cater for those with the latest kit with PCM/True HD, while the majority (I assume, especially as Blu-ray because mainstream) have to settle with basic 5.1DD when they could have DTS 1.5mbps.

On the other hand we have FOX/New Line with only DTS-MA tracks, no middle ground that suits everyone like the Close Encounters release.
