blu-ray.com poster, CAB reports that Variety reports, that Bill Hunt reports, that HD Digest reports that Tom's Hardware reports that Universal is primed to drop HD DVD exclusivity.

I couldn't help myself.

Looks like it and that I wasn't the only one confused by Variety's wording. I posted this elsewhere, but it could be said it came from an insider, since it was one of the people listed as writing the Variety article. Here was his explanation yesterday for the line about Universal's commitment ending:
Quote:
it means they are no longer contractually committed to remain exclusive to HD DVD. so they can do what they want. but they haven't made the decision to switch yet. that's why it says in the next graf "Neither studio is ready to throw in the towel immediately, however."
Looks like the tgdaily article is gone now, so maybe they realized their mistake of interpreting the Variety article incorrectly.

insiders, i heard on another board that paramount and universal are giving hd dvd 4 weeks to come up with a darn good plan to comeback against blu-ray, if not they will be relasing on blu-ray, any thoughts on this?
which forum?

I did notice that Amazon has seriously slashed HD DVD player pricing.

Well our insiders have gotten gun shy as of late. Either they're still drunk off they're a-- or the have info that they can't divulge. I am guessing it's a bit of both.

Insiders are busy post-CES. We will reboot the insiders thread on Monday, but please try to not spam this thread anyway. Thank you!

Yes, I understand. The studio I was hinting at was on earth. Bouncing around the galaxies on earth. . .

Is it time to welcome Dave Vaughn back?

He's making efforts to back Blu-ray, and is even admitting FOX could have been playing the HD-DVD camp, rather than seriously considering HD-DVD.

He may be able to speak a little more freely than actual insiders, and provide good information.

Not at the risk of alienating Insiders. I'd rather have people who are in the business instead of people reporting about the business. We've been all but plainly assured by our buds that Uni-mount is about to move to lower frequencies. What's to be closed about after they do?

That was after I specifically asked him that question. He then stated it could be a possibility. But he was pretty sure of the whole Fox and Warner almost going HD-DVD scenario. He is coming around though and he starting to sound a lot more objective especially after PM's latest post on the AVS thread. We all have opinions and biases, but I think it's the time for healing (except for a few HD-DVD nuts and one Junior VP from a software company who I can never forgive ).

I am of the mindset that the silence has to do with something along the lines of a Never Drinking Alone...

If anyone of the Insiders has Fox connections could you tell them that I would like The Abyss on blu.

The non-anamorphic dvd I have is in DIRE need of replacement.

For insiders with Lionsgate connections, please for the inevitable Terminator 2 special edition.

Insiders,

Warner is currently not using region code on any of their releases, will this change when they drop HD DVD? I for one love the fact that they don't use it, since many movies are not released by them in Sweden.

And any chance I Am Legend will be Blu-Ray exclusive..? Love that movie

I've said it months ago, and I'll say it now. Fox execs: give a big chunk of money to Alan Silvestri so that he can re-do Robert Garrett's electronic score to match the rest of the movie. A 7.1 audio remaster wouldn't hurt either. THEN archive it on 4K and release it on BD.
