I would've guessed that it was in honor of an old crime/drama television show.

Too bad for them that they can't hack customers and get them to buy more HDDVDs.

And
i mean to say they should shut the f'n site down if it redirects you to the HD DVD site, what purpose does it serve to leave it up?

Since you probably have the right contacts, I'll ask you, although another insider can answer or take action. After Black Friday week there was an article about NPD data for standalone players between the formats for that week. With the recent price drops on the Sony and Samsung players, I'm guessing that the ratio for the week before Christmas will be better for Blu-ray than the Black Friday week was (even though I didn't consider that one bad). Since the week before Christmas is also likely to be an important week, any chance that there will be an article giving us the standalone hardware numbers for this week (and maybe right up until Christmas)? If so, it would of course be good if it mentioned the PS3 as a Blu-ray player again.

Thanks,
Darin

Sharp who makes a Blu--Ray player is teaming up with Toshiba to make LCD HDTVs. Any reason to read more into this. Seems like rivals are starting to play a little bit nicer?

i think you are reading too far into it. toshiba and sony worked together with the CELL processor and Sony recently sold its chip plants to Toshiba.

Just because they are rivals in one area doesn't mean they can't be allies in another area.

Under that logic what does that make Toshiba and Sony. Does a little thing called a cell processor mean anything to you?
all of these big companies will fight on one thing and work together on another. It means nothing and has been happing for years.

This is for Sony insiders. On another thread somebody reported that they bought a King of Queens box set on DVD and it came with a 3 page advertisement inside pushing HD DVD. I looked KoQ up on imdb.com and it shows that Sony has the rights to that and Amazon shows Sony as the publisher for the box set (although CBS/Paramount is involved in the show). If this set is from Sony, did somebody sneak HD DVD advertising in there?

Good catch. I missed that it said "with" and not "in".

I know you are not a hardware guy, but I was wondering if you could please help us (via SCEA) get the record set straight with regards to the PS3 and bitstreaming of the TrueHd and DTS-HD audio streams.

Please see the link below:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showp...&postcount=109

The question really boils down to whether the chip in the PS3 is capable of bitstreaming (nobody seems to know, and there's no specs posted @ silicon image re: the chip in the PS3)? There's a lot of FUD and panic going around about this and DTS-MA, so I think it's in the best interests of Sony to provide a little clarity. No timeline for possible firmware upgrade needed, just would like to know if it's possible.

If the PS3 is capable of bitstreaming, then I'd like to officially register my "vote" that SCEA provide a firmware update to enable this. I'm a little biased since I just bought a preamp w/ Dolby TrueHD and DTS-MA decoding.

As always thanks.
Has any of the insiders had a chance to look into this yet?

Thanks!

Folks I’m leaving work so I can go “Holiday” shopping for a “Holiday” tree so that I can put our “Holiday” presents under it on “Holiday” eve.

So, if I can’t check in during the next few days, I wish one and all on Tuesday (Dec.25) ………..

Merry Christmas
