Very wise post. The consumers have done MORE than their part by still buying discs and players throughout this fiasco.

I highly recommend it. I should go leave a review of it. The cordless bluetooth is great.

Anyway, Hope this helps,
Thanks Joel. I have an MX5000 and I have some functionality but not all IIRC.

I think what would be most useful is the ability to custom map keys and that would definitely sound like an SCEI/firmware thing....

It would unlock everything from teh PS button on IR remotes via Nyko, etc as well as do custom SIXAXIS/Dualshock 3 mappings...

So, there's been some head butting with David Vaughn over at hidefdigest -

His latest statement claims -

"Show me one BD50 disc that has been manufactured by anyone other than Cinram or Sony DADC that has been released to a retail channel, just one. I bet you can't find one."

Does Panasonic not also do BD-50 production now? I know I've seen it but can't remember a source.

(And is there a way to tell on the disc? I know how to spot BD-25's and BD-50's, but not how to interpret the manufacturer of the disc. I'd love to be able to find a Panasonic disc if possible hehe).

To be honest, why does Panasonic have to produce BD50's? And his been proven to have bad "insider" information... so just it's just more FUD.

It has to do with the stuff over @ HDD. DV, is back on the yield track again, and we would like some information to either confirm what he is saying, or facts to rebut.

Look at the inner ring of the data side, there's an identification number and barcode for each layer. If there is just one id & barcode, it's a BD25. If there are two ids & two barcodes, it's a BD50.

Just flip the disc and look at the text on the rings around the center, BVSS is single layer and BVDL is dual layer.

Next he'll say how his "sources" have confirmed with him how every replicator in existence can replicate TL51 discs with 100% yield. He'll go on to note how it is also cheaper than a BD25.
Don't forget, this will all be "confirmed" with his "sources".

I might have one, The Wild Bunch by Warner just purchased a couple weeks ago. I don't know where it's made, but it's got a different barcode & id formatting than every other Blu-ray I've ever purchased before, including previous Warner titles. Blade Runner also has the differently formatted info for anyone to verify themselves what I'm referring to, though they are BD25s.

Actually, Warner's new Blu-rays are different and do not follow this pattern anymore, that's why I didn't mention it in my earlier reply.

none of my bd have a manufacturer on them. i guess hes gone back to yield fud so he scare the normal folk into worrying that bd replication wont be able to keep up if warner jump and the market increases

David Vaughn is obviously getting nervous about Warner switching soon to BD only; as a result, he's going to be upping the FUD talk.

That's interesting. Where is Warner getting their newer discs? I'll have to check the flip side of my HP and Blade Runner sets. I wonder if New Line is using the same type. I'll check that too when Pans Lab comes (hopefully today).

Considering the good old labelling system from Sony, I'm going to go out on a limb here and make the following assumptions:

Discs with BVSS & BVDL are from Sony, most likely the good old Tera Haute, IN plant. LD's used to be marked with similar distinctions as LDVS (PCM Audio), LDAC (AC-3 Audio), LDTX (THX, PCM) and TDTA (THX, AC-3)... Thanks to www.blamld.com/Laserdisc for the archival info.

The warner discs with just standard marking are probably from Cinram.

All info DV gets about Blu will be a few months out of date, especially about replication where people will be wary about talking to him.
Vaughn misinformed about BD disc production? I'm shocked .

I have a hard time understanding how the side that thinks they only need one CE manufacturer thinks we need several dozen different dual-layer disc manufacturers.

Sony DADC announced they'd pressed 10 million BD50 discs awhile back, and Toshiba has produced, what, less than 1 million HD DVD players? I would worry a lot more about production (and SALES!) in their own house than ours.

Default I think this is the link you are looking for

In response to the DV thread about BD production.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/12...bd_production/

As you can see, this was back in 2005, so DV's information is two years old now.

You know, I don't worry about production plants, yields, or any of that stuff.

I'm confident the BDA will be able to meet the demand, and produce discs that are very reasonably priced for such an early date in the format's existence.

And that's all I care about. Why would I care about any of the other stuff?

I don't support HD DVD, that's why. They're the ones getting ulcers while I sit here and enjoy true hi-def.

Max -- hope the healing is proceeding apace. And that pints are close at hand. Cheers, mate.
