If they planned to drop hd-dvd why would they (Warner) attend the hd-dvd conference ? It's unsettling news I think, but is it true ?
Where did you hear this?

Default Bd-j

kjack or paidgeek,

I wrote some CDC Personal Basis Profile Software which should be (source) compatible with BD-J which I would like to use on blu-ray players. Is there any consumer level authoring software which allows to burn a disc with BD-J? Is it even possible since it seems that every BD-J disc needs AACS?

Thanks

over at an hd forum where someone repeated it from some supposed to be insider at AVS or something. I know it's rumor material only but It's worth asking the insiders here

How long before we start seeing HD-DVD players at the dollar stores with 30 free movies coupons?
You can do it. Just purchase a A-3 with 10 free. Then return the movies to another store for credit. Purchase the same unit for 10 free and go to another store for credit. Repeat not one, not twice, but thrice and you will eventually have 3 A-3 players which you can sell discounted or return to a store, used that money to purchase said 30 movies without having spent a dollar of your own money.

What about 100GB discs for movies (not PC storage)? Any plans? Any development of a prototype that would work on existing hardware?

For future SCEA insider:

Will there be a Playstation Underground coupon given to PS3 owners, to get maybe $5 to $10 off a Dual Shock 3? Seems like a good way to reward early adopters.

Back to blu-ray:

Are blu-ray based navigation systems being worked on? I assume they could hold much more detailed U.S. maps than the DVD-based systems.

How about Blu-ray disc based players on vehicles? Any of these plans in the future?

why? It's not as if you gonna see any 1920x1080 screens in your car in the future that will fit on your dashboard. the current displays for cars are not even DVD resolution yet.

No,
Mine (or perhaps mystik’s-- if she plays her cards right in the future ) is hanging safely in my closet.

That person should not be selling that jacket on e-bay. A gift means a gift. It must be the son/daughter of an executive that doesn’t give a twit about high definition movies.

100GB prototypes work on all existing players to my knowlege

They will not be pressing movies on them. I think first DVD-18, then HD DVD combos have taught us all a valuable lesson about why going over 2 layers on a single disk is a bad idea. With the exponentially lower tolerances of Blu-ray, it's just asking for trouble on any kind of mass replication

For me its not the resolution I care about. I want to by more blu movies for my kids. The reason I don't is that when we travel on plane or car. We bring our portable player. And if I buy a movie on blu. I can't use it on trips.

If you do a search online, BD head units have already been announced.

So would you (and I kinda ask this also to other Insiders ) say that if Toshiba goes forward with their TL-51 plan in a desperate move to regain ground, they're in for some massive amount of failures? Which possibly is the reason why we haven't seen this format actually presented yet?

If 100GB replication becomes a reality for PC data storage, yields will (also) be good enough for movies. Data is data.

Penton-man, not only is that a *brilliant* short (trey parker/matt stone?), but I'm wondering if you're hinting about a possible dual-format studio at CES? After all, a studio has to try new things if the old things are... well... old and stupid.

Making a handful of very expensive discs for data storage (and personally, I doubt they will ever make them in any kind of large capacity) and making a mass replication of a movie are 2 entirely different things

I will say flat-out. Based on yields from tests with formats that have higher tolerances than Blu-ray, the failure rate will be unnacceptibly high for any kind of mass replication

TotalHD is not on the market for a lot more reasons than only 1 dual format studio.
