So I've pretty much decided this and Revenant will be my first two "reference" purchases, but when I check the price...

45 DOLLARS!?!?!?

Is this a normal thing? All others I've seen hover around the $25 mark. Holy moly.

It's not even funny how much this disc smokes the standard BD.

Yea, Had a couple friends over and watch it on my 65KS9500 and they thought it was better than watching it in the theater. Now all I need is my new Receiver to get here so I can watch again it with Dolby Atmos.

I got a few other 4K disc earlier (Martian, Mad Max, Spiderman, even double dipped on Star Trek 2009) All of them got 4.5 or above video rating on the reviews here but Pacific Rim is the only one that actually knock me off my feet. Lets put it this way. This is the only 4K movie that makes me regret not getting the 78KS9500

Holy molly the 4k HDR version was insane, the HDR and wide color gamut absolutely destroy the original BD. Every time when there's holograms, sparks, explosions, kaiju goos or lights in general on show, the picture becomes heavenly brilliant. I can't stress how much of a pop it gives you over anything else, the only 4k BD comes close to it is BVS. It's pretty much the poster child for HDR.

Wow, watched this last night and this is one hell of a demo disc. The colours, clarity, detail in the blacks and skin tones is simply gorgeous. Put on my 2D and 3D blu-rays afterwards to compare and whilst they're still great, they just felt pale in comparison.

If ur a fan of the film, this is an immediate pruchase.

Thanks to all who commented on the picture quality since this will probably be one of the first UHD discs I'll buy when I finally get a UHDTV.

Now we just need a UHD disc of CRIMSON PEAK, though I realize that's probably unlikely given the underperformance at box office for another great misunderstood Guillermo del Toro film. The audiences lately don't seem to get these unusual subgenre movies, I saw both in theater & loved them.

CRIMSON PEAK is a great gothic romance film, a subgenre which lends itself to over the top. PACIFIC RIM didn't do all that well despite being way ahead of all the Transformers scrap which always makes an automatic fortune just from toy branding nostalgia. I look forward to seeing PAC RIM in all its UHD glory.

Damn, just ordered this (Aussie release) based on your comments Been trying really hard not to buy films I already have on Blu, but it's gonna be hard I tell ya

The aspect ratio.. it's still at a glorious 1.78:1 though isn't it?

Crimson Peak is great. It flopped at the box office because it was marketed as a horror film when it was always meant to be a gothic romance movie (like you said), so once the word got out, from casuals, that is wasn't "scary" it was done for. When I saw it with my gf, we both liked it, but there was a few teens in there that were making fun of it when they were leaving. I imagine that was the reaction from the mainstream crowd who wanted a Halloween scary ghost movie.

Hell yeah, the full screen transfer is absolutely epic and the way all uhd hdr movies should be done! All of a sudden I felt my screen was bigger and more impactful.

Saw this for about £16 on fleabay (Aussie release) and decided to have a punt on it for that price, given all the amazing feedback.

This review describe it better than I can. http://whysoblu.com/pacific-rim-4k-uhd-blu-ray-review/

My jaw is permanently opened wide after witnessing this on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. One word…REFERENCE. This 4K Blu-ray presentation doesn’t disappoint. Not at all! You know that whole massive size and scope thing I have been raving about all review long? Well it’s rendered incredibly here. This thing just pops! It’s the magic of 4K Blu-ray, baby! The detail is infinite, rich and sharp throughout. Heck, I never noticed how Elba’s head was shaved so perfectly until now. From the welts and rivets in the Shatterdome doors and on the mech warriors’s suits to the individual stars, snowflakes and beads of water, this track is like a Kaiju, live and kicking! Fine textures are abound everywhere from the skin on the monsters to the wooly fabric employed on Elba’s jacket. After comparing this one to the 1080p Blu-ray there’s “clearly” just so much more to see in the 4K presentation. It’s night and day. The fine detail in the computer graphics and intricate set pieces are so lifelike you feel like you could just reach out and touch them. Of course there are a few soft sequences with all the CG, but so what. If you can’t appreciate this presentation, you might need your eyes checked.Same thing about Pacific Rim.

It was also captured using above 2K resolution cameras (I believe it uses 5K in some scenes somebody correct me/google), so that may also be a contributing factor. In the same way that the IMAX footage looks better than the regular film stock on Dark Knight Rises and Interstellar. Both on a 1080p bluray, but the IMAX footage captured more details so it looks yummy as hell regardless of the resolution of the standard bluray.
The biggest improvcomes from WCG. In the theatres, all movies were mastered in P3. Even withouth HDR, the first thing you'll notice is WCG, better compression scheme resulting in clearer picture. In a grand scheme of things, the resolution is the least important thing in UHD BD.

I bought Pacific Rim on 4K UHD HDR blu-ray and it sucks! The aspect ratio is incorrect! It was shot in 1.85:1 and there are no black bars. So the movie studios are cow towing to the masses and filling the screen! This sucks. I'm so upset. Warner Brothers recall this disc and fix it! And yes my LG B6 is setup correctly for picture. It's set on aspect ratio Original and Just Scan...
