I could've sworn it was $14.99 around Black Friday, although Camel Camel Camel says that Amazon's lowest price was $16.96. Can't remember if it was another retailer or not.

Amazon and Best Buy both have Pacific Rim in their 3-for-$49.99 sales, so you can get it for under around $16.66 before tax as long as you can find a couple other movies to buy alongside it.

Which is why most people (Del Toro included) prefer the 3D version, which he handled personally. May just pop this in to watch while the snowstorm rages. Either that or "Everest"! Lol

I must confess I haven't watched the 3D version anymore since I got the 4K when it came out.

I'm going to see Uprising very soon so this might be a good time to pop in the good ol' 3D disc again.

It was. I failed to buy it then. So I bought it as part of the amazong 3 UHD for $50. It is also part of the current 3 UHD for $50 sale at Best Buy.

If you see the new one in 3D, let us know how effective it was. That shot in the commercial of the robot fist coming at the screen looks like it might be.

Dangit... Been modifying Steelbooks to make "complete" releases and inside the Steelbook I chose for Pacific Rim lo and behold there was a bonus bonus disc with an hour of extras and that messed with my plan, five discs don't sit well in a normal Steelbook.

Got a jumbo, Jaeger-sized () six-disc Steelbook to try it out, which would be 4K + 3D + 2D + Bonus + Bonus + DVD, but this is just garbage.

So I'm omitting that bonus bonus disc because it's stuff that's streaming-exclusive in the US anyway so whatever, that works. Four discs (4K + 3D + 2D + Bonus) in a normal Steelbook for me.

They have jumbos that are black plastic rather than clear, they look WAY better. If you can get your hands on one of those shells, it might be worth it. But I dunno how/where you'd even get it (the only Steelbook I have like that is the Best Buy LOTR one).

And then of course the enormous spine will still be a problem. Might have to just get one of those six-disc stackers. That's what I did for Man of Steel (4K, 2D Blu-ray, Target and Walmart bonus discs, and DVD, with space for the 3D if I ever feel like getting it).

Stackers suck. The only one I have had scratched discs because of it.

I also picked up a black Jumbo case (Walking Dead, $15 on eBay) and that's not the problem, I just don't like how the case goes from being a Steelbook to being a Plasticbook.

Yeah I'm not a fan of stackers either, but with Man of Steel I had no choice. Took out the four-disc swing tray shell and used it on Transformers 4 (3D, 2D, Bonus, DVD which will be replaced by the 4K at some point). Nice part about the Transformers 4 one is that the 3D slipcover fits over it.

After calming down for a moment, in all fairness a Plasticbook is exactly what every movie comes in anyway.

Suppose I'll look into making a custom spine for this. Also I prefer the clear frame because quite frankly without internal artwork a jumbo Steelbook is even more disappointing.

And if I can get the interior and exterior printed on clear stickers, the metallic effect of the unpainted spine can come through!

Also, sorry for hijacking the 4K thread; I'm just making an ultimate Pacific Rim "Jaegerbook" here, and it does include 4K.

I see the itunes 4k is $9.99..... Is it visually that much better to purchase the disk for $23 over digital?

That was more of a joke for the GIF. I don't have Atmos yet but I prefer to aquire movies with it for when I eventually do.

Pretty sure iTunes is just Dolby Digital. At the very least the disc has better sound quality and video compression, and comes with a code that should allow you to get 4K on iTunes anyway.

For a film not shot in 4k or 3d it manages to be demo worthy in both.
