Random late to the party question...was the film shot to be a little crunchy in the shadows?

Have seen it many times and just re-watched the UHD version tonight to eval it on a new OLED TV. It still looks crazy solid overall, just had some moments where the shadows were a bit darker that I was expecting

The blacks are crushed to all hell on the Bluray. For the UHD they lifted (lightened) the blacks considerably.
