I heard many times that part 2 was scrapped. If it's back on, thay works for me.

I'm going to wait for reviews as well for this release. I haven't got a UHD setup yet anyway. But still, I'm bothered by that 4K isn't going all the way with the releases.
Why don't they spend the time needed on the VFX rendering?!
So what if it takes time. If you want something done well, you need to do it right. And why the hurry? I don't get it.
The 4K format isn't even that common yet so they might just take the time. As it is now they're just half-heartedly spitting out non-genuine 4K UHD's, as I see it. As if they're not taking the format seriously and think of us customers like we buy it anyway no matter what.
I'm not upgrading to 4K UHD unless I REALLY get what I pay for. I think that's the least you can demand and expect!
Seems to me that so far 4K UHD is pretty fake and some marketing stunt to get more of our hard-earned money.

Other than that, Pacific Rim is a total blast and I'd be glad to add it to my library, even if I don't have the tech to watch it yet. But again, it has to be a damn fine 4K UHD edition for me to go and buy it.

I don't know if the idea was scrapped when you wrote that post some time ago, but I sure as hell hope they make a sequel.
To this monster movie and Godzilla as well.
And I hope they make it well and with the same respect as the initial movies.
Pacific Rim is one helluva joy ride! Btw I love the cover art with the Jaeger and the little girl. I hope it's the final cover art.

This will be yet another dip, triple? double? It looked mighty impressive on Vudu UHD with Dolby Vision, and I'm sure this will be darn good looking on physical disc with HDR.

The newly revised cover makes it clear that ala 'Man of Steel' the second disc of extra features which includes the Del Toro diary feature won't be included.

For those wondering about Pacific Rim 2:

• First there was not going to be a squeal due to poor domestic BO performance
• Then due to a good international haul (thanks China!) PR2 went into development
• It got stuck in 'development hell' while Del Toro worked on other projects but was scheduled for a Aug 4 2017 release
• Sometime in Fall 2015 it was announced that production would be put on hold while Legendary & Universal sorted out some fiance stuff.
• Early 2016 it was announced that Steven DeKnight of Spartacus & Daredevil fame would be directing the sequel
• It now has a Feb 23 2018 release date

Oh, and it's called Maelstrom which I think is silly. Whats wrong with 2?

Got my shipping notice as well. Recently my Best Buy deliveries have been coming a day earlier than the release date. If it comes on Monday, I plan to do a comparison between the 4K disc and the blu-ray. I also have the 3D blu-ray for comparison.
