not sure why people care so much about that. options are fine, and when was the last time a new film came out exclusively on DVD?

with the exception of small batch independent distributors most dvd releases are junk not worth buying anyways.

Wouldn't surprise me if the actual source is a WD Cinema Pasport.

There is another more detailed article about the Panasonic Player:

It says that an actual 4K/UHD Blu-ray was playing. (Probably not a BD66 or BD100 I guess). The design of the player is not final.

Movies rarely come out exclusively on DVD, but most TV Shows do.

Not too shabby Freakosaurus, do you know/remember what one of the earliest was? Kind of ironic, because its appearance really riled up some fanboys at the time.

It's pretty routine for independent releases. I have a friend who's addicted to watching new horror movies on VOD, and the overwhelming majority of what he tells me about never makes it to Blu-ray. (DVD, check, HD VOD/digital purchases, absolutely, but almost never BD.) Exeter is an example from just this past week. Mary Elizabeth Winstead's past couple of movies, Faults and Alex of Venice, scored DVD releases but never made it to BD either. This sort of thing seems to happen quite a bit, but because these movies are usually fairly under-the-radar anyway, I don't think the lack of a BD goes all that noticed.

As others have mentioned, I wish the TV-on-BD landscape were a lot different.

If we're talking 4k and up, not off the top of my head, but I do know there were movies earlier than David Fincher's efforts.

No problem , here's a hint....

Think of someone who originally studied medicine In Argentina, received his medical degree, and was "radicalized by the poverty, hunger, and disease he witnessed" throughout South America, becoming a Marxist revolutionary allied with Fidel Castro and then went onto become an iconic cultural hero.

Ah, I thought it might've been Che. Or I could've just gone to wiki and seen that it was the first feature to apparently use the Red One.

Life of Pi and Days of Futures Past both have been released on fantastic Blu-Ray 3Ds with great Native 3D presentations. Unless you are stereo-blind or just have a massive hatred of 3D I can't imagine why anyone would prefer an a 2k sourced transfer in 2D given how great both movies 3D aspects were. Until a 3D option is added I see no point in releasing these titles on this new format
Well for those people who don't care about 3D the improvements can be 10-bit video, wider color gamut, 4K resolution (most are upconversions), and HDR (most are upconversions).

Agreed, for certain popular movies the studios might consider doing it several years from now but for the immediate future I think it will be upconversions all the way.

You and the movie forgot about personally murdering political prisoners at La Cabana and calls for nuclear war & genocide. Or his racism, homophobia and other charming attributes. He's a hero to the ignorant.

That's why the other film, The Motorcycle Diaries, focuses on his Jack Kerouac inspired adventures before he became radicalized. A fantastic film.

You mean Mein Kampf: Argentina? So you would gush over a Joseph Goebbels film focusing on his young adventures as long as it was well done, right? Stalin and Mao were young and impressionable people too, nothing justifies what they did later in life and people shouldn't whitewash it either.

Personally if someone wants to admire a murderer I can somewhat understand Stalin and Mao since they were at least competent at what they did. Che Guevara was just as evil and committed many horrific acts but was little more than a murderer. I know that not everyone loves capitalism but I will never understand why people admire a guy who would be considered a monster had he been fighting for any other cause.

I admire the movie for it's quality as a standalone piece of filmmaking, not because I admire the man.

Honestly, I didn’t forget, I just didn’t know that.

Peter….if I’d had, and if indeed true as others here have indicated, I would have also included those serious character/behavioral flaws in the hint to Filmfreak....which was simply my innocent attempt to direct him to the answer, not to promote Che, per se.

I’ll say one thing, I’ll be headed for the IBC in Amsterdam and you’ve inspired me to try before then to get the book from the local Barnes&Noble…
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/che-...=9780802144119
in order to educate myself and pass the time during the flight and any airport delays. If not in stock, I’ve already got a backup….

Too bad they didn't have the player connected to their new OLED display.

Of course they don't have one yet, but now that Panasonic is in, how long can they wait?

Well I have to admit I'm a bit annoyed at the lack of information on the launch of this format. IFA has only two days left and we still only know that Samsung 'hopes' to have a player out in 2016, this serves little to no purpose in my life as by the time Christmas 2016 rolls round there is bound to be many players on the market. If the format is not out for Christmas 2015 I will save it for Christmas 2016 as I always save expensive items for Christmas Day, it keeps the Christmas spirit alive and I feel like a child again.

I was expecting concrete information on this by now, something also tells me that the package shot of Kingsman: The Secret Service is not final.
