BTW, when is 8K content going to be mainstream? By that time Micro-LED will be available for mass distribution. |

Manufacturers are pushing for wide availability of premium and mid-range microLED TVs in the next 5-7 years and the industry players are throwing piles of money at the R&D labs to make the manufacturing and materials less complicated. Until then, miniLED will be leading and dominating the market over that time - beginning next year - and OLED will gradually decline, due to lack of technology advancements.

Is the Samsung micro-LED a true micro-LED? in order to be called micro, each LED can be no larger than 15 microns, whereas the Samsung is closer to 100 microns. So in reality, it's technology somewhere between micro and mini.
As far as yield rates for micro-LED, it's still below 20%, and until they can figure out how to improve yield rate, it will be a pipe dream for most consumers. |

If you can wait a few months, several new mini-led tv's, including a few from Samsung will be coming out. Hopefully they will perform better than the first attempt by TCL.

True, but the OP was losing faith in OLED. That's the next best choice, if not OLED. I sure would not recommend a normal black lit LED. If Samsung or Sony can produce a really good mini-led, it would be my choice after OLED. Of course the key word is IF.

it's most noticable with skin colors as people occupy that space on screen the affected part makes people's skin look sunburned. last night an LG rep said it would be submitted for possible approval because even though their 3 year warranty goes by manufactured date I was able to submit proof that it's been under 3 years of my actual purchase date. picked up my 2017 model in March of 2018. So fingers crossed. |

Mini-LED, Micro-LED and OLED displays: presentstatus and future perspectives
AbstractPresently, liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays are two dominant flat paneldisplay technologies. Recently, inorganic mini-LEDs (mLEDs) and micro-LEDs (μLEDs) have emerged by significantlyenhancing the dynamic range of LCDs or as sunlight readable emissive displays. “mLED, OLED, or μLED: who wins?”isa heated debatable question. In this review, we conduct a comprehensive analysis on the material properties, devicestructures, and performance of mLED/μLED/OLED emissive displays and mLED backlit LCDs. We evaluate the powerconsumption and ambient contrast ratio of each display in depth and systematically compare the motion pictureresponse time, dynamic range, and adaptability to flexible/transparent displays. The pros and cons of mLED, OLED, andμLED displays are analysed, and their future perspectives are discussed. https://www.researchgate.net/publica...e_perspectives |
