At best it’s a little improvement yes some are better than others but it’s not the best thing ever invented like some of the dv evangelicals think it is. No dv is the same on different tvs all tvs do it different. It just asinine to be closed minded like that.

Samsung defenders are just as bad. When the Halloween II UHD came out a lot of people were complain about a glitch in the hot tub scene which I never noticed, turns out the DV layer pretty much fixed it. Greatly improved the encoding problems that are on the plain HDR layer.

That’s fair like I said being narrow minded is asinine there are people still buying 1500 blu ray players that have two dead formats dvd audio and sacd but will criticize formats they say are dead makes no sense. No display no tv no format is perfect.

I think it's totally fair if someone absolutely rules out Samsung TVs for no DV. When you're paying a lot of money for a TV, it makes sense to have a few ground rules based on personal preference.
We've done this argument so many times, but Jay has pretty much got it. That's why I would never touch a TV without DV these days, because there are way too many examples of manky HDR10 encodes where DV improves it. |

I think it's absurd to say its dead without DV. However. I say that and someone who'd get both a LG OLED with MLA, and the Samsung QD 55" because a) Sony is expensive, b) only comes in 65 in my market. Boo!
Seriously I can get both sets on sale price for the standard price of a single Sony 65. And eff that considering I could use one in the study on grading/demo (probly QD OLED). Maybe if Sony sell the 55 in australia this year... Not holding my breath! The only thing giving me pause for the plan is LG on the G3 not having the service menu capability. That's a big ding. I hate the dim down features not being in my control for times I want critical viewing. |

Samsung is the #1 selling brand so it may be dead to you but not the average person which is what matters to them.
Samsung is the leader in the global television (TV) set market with a share of 19.6 percent in terms of sales volume in 2022. LG and TCL take second place with 11.7 percent in the same year. While LG's market share decreaed, TCL's market share underwent a growth, up from 11.5 percent in 2021. |

Samsung is the TV leader in sales, but definitely not in quality. They just do such a good job with marketing, that since the average consumer doesn’t know any better, they decide to go with Samsung.

Yep the average consumer goes with the picture with more punch, they don’t care about accuracy.

Show me the Premium segment sales numbers When you reach the premium segment, Samsung horrible processing and terrible QC make it the worst possible choice... If I lived in the US, I would buy an Hisense or a TCL before Samsung... |

Personally about Samsung I think the worst thing about their cheap TVs is the soap opera effect they have. I don’t have a large sample to look at but it made scenes look like they were shot with no effects whatsoever. They looked raw. Lg has soap opera effect but it’s not like what I saw. I still don’t like it but it doesn’t do whatever that is to the tv or movies I am watching. To think people are watching picture modes with without changing it scares me.
