Samsung is strongly committed to the 8K TV market. Their new 2024 65", 75" and 85" QN800D and the flagship QN900D are selling well and the overall performance is excellent!

I am hopeful that we'll soon see Samsung add native 8K content to their TV Channel service.

Would never consider a Samsung unless they finally offer DV.

With the size of flat panel TVs getting larger and brighter and higher rez and their prices eventually getting lower, are we @ the precipice of the world of projectors?

* The only thing missing from flat panel TVs that projectors still have as a grand superior supported asset (in my cinéma chapter book) is (((3D)))

All brands should be universal HDR at this point... it's the one sad state of affairs in this industry/format, this is not a standard practice.

The Samsung TV Plus content varies by market (location) of viewers. Some markets have 8K content and others do not, while Samsung only points to YouTube to provide 8K video for anyone and everyone who buys their 8K TVs and also suggests that buyers acquire one of their premium phones to make personal videos in 8K. Of the 8K content that is offered, the majority of it is apparently nothing more than upscaled movies and TV shows, with the occasional and rare bit of genuine 8K content, such as Das Boot (TV). We are only now at the point where 8K cameras and post-production can be considered "practical" for those who can afford it and there are still a lot of things to iron out on the streaming side of content serving, but in the next 4-5 years, every bit of the pipeline will be sorted out and ready to make and serve content, from the cameras and production hardware to the end-user's broadband networks and 8K TVs and computer monitors. The real blocks are whether or not the content industry sees any true value moving to 8K in and by that time, which they absolutely don't at this time, and consumers certainly won't follow unless someone starts offering cheap 8K TVs, which there is absolutely no sign of or apparent demand for. As the saying goes, "It's a chicken and egg thing...".

And it doesn't help that live "4K" broadcasting is sometimes upscaled 1080p anyway! By the time any kind of 8K pipeline is established then maybe we'll finally get 4K (upscaled) sports

4K still felt like a leap in quality, going from SD to HD to UHD has resulted in visible gains along the way, but 8K (Ultra-Ultra-HD?) is the first time I've felt such a resounding mehhhhh about a resolution bump, for the very simple reasons that there's SO little content to support it (either catalogue or native) and the increase in resolution is so incremental that you'd need to sitting about 5ft from an 85" screen to gain any perceptible improvement.

8K would be awesome, but right now I just want some high bitrate 4K or even 1080 content. DirecTV and YT for example are so bit starved these days it's just painful to watch much of the time. Macroblocking is rampant, and everything is just mush. For example I thought Sly's Tulsa King was compressed on Paramount +, just try watching it on our local CBS station. It's painful. A few weeks after I finished it on P+, the Blu-ray was announced (lol) so I am going to wait for S2 on disc this time around.

The 4K DTV channel I have didn't have a single Euro 2024 match for example (we had plenty of Farm Girl Cooking and the Westminster Dog Show was in 4K though, priorities!) so I had to watch some very compressed 720p feeds on our local FOX station. I returned my Zapperbox a few months ago as it was buggy so I couldn't even take advantage of the ATSC 3.0 OTA channel which would be much improved over the satellite feed.

As Geoff said most of our 4K feeds for the small smattering of 4K NFL football games and such (sadly, only playoff matches) are upscaled 1080p HDR, but the HLG broadcast along with the increased bitrate makes for a far improved experience. Watching the entirety of the 2022 World Cup in 4K was really enjoyable. FOX is the only network has any real 4K content and even that seems to be sliding with the Euro coverage.

On the other hand, sports as a whole are covered dismally in the US from an A/V perspective. NFL games are quite compressed on local stations or even national broadcasts in the evenings. Sometimes you see a game or two on Peacock that looks surprisingly good, but having to subscribe to yet another service on top of the TV you already pay for is another can of worms. At least the Superbowl is in 4K and whatever FOX covered playoff games there are.

I watch a decent amount of NBA games as the Timberwolves were doing quite well this year and not a single game was in 4K. Not even the playoffs or even the NBA Finals!

I just received my calibrated 85" Sony Bravia 9 yesterday from Value Electronics and my initial impressions are of amazement. It was immediately obvious what an upgrade this TV is over my old Sony 85" X900F.

I am really looking forward to exploring my new TV further over the coming days and nights.

Thanks to Robert for the excellent customer service that I received, too.

The US is quite laughable when it comes to broadcasting in 4K.
