The issue at hand is the minimum size versus production complexity. Today Samsung will be offering MicroLED in 110, 99 and 88 inch displays for about $1000 per inch. The smaller the display - the harder it is to maintain the desired 4K resolution as the wafers themselves are all the same size. Shrinking the wafer size so say a 75" display could be sold is a monumental task along with having to maintain 99% acceptance rate on the microLEDs themselves. Yes - you read that right. There will be "dead pixels" if the acceptance rate doesn't hit 100%.

The best ETA for a consumer priced (between $5000 and $10,000) MicroLED display is between 5 years and 8 years (2026 - 2029).

That's why it's advisable to wait. Let them develop and fine tune the tech. By the time Micro-led is ready, OLED and Mini-LED will be fined tuned stopgap techs. I remember when OLED was on an 11 inch set about 20 years ago and people waited for it.

Different mindset concerning hanging on to one's TV: 20 years ago to today. What you do has no relationship to what the rest of the world will do.

In the timeframe I mentioned, there is an excellent chance that most people will have bought at least one, if not two new TVs. And with expected prices of 5k to 10K for a 75" TV, that will put sales in the extremely small early adopter category. Seen any huge price drops in 8K TVs lately?

Yep, why anyone would get excited over a mocked up marketing picture that has no bearing on real world performance is behind me.

Liked what you saw on The Mandalorian? You can thank MicroLED if you did.

Mini-LED TV: What makes Samsung Neo QLED, LG QNED and TCL OD Zero so special?
The latest advancement in LCD tech is coming to more TVs in 2021. Here's why smaller LEDs matter.

8K is stupid, period. It's irrelevant.

I wonder the same about people that get excited about each year's incremental improvement in consumer electronics. I watched a cell phones review video where a gentlemen opined on why you should upgrade from Samsung S20 Ultra to the Samsung S21 Ultra, and literally said because it looks better. The same thing goes on with TV's. That's the type of madness going on today.

The mindset changed because of Madison ave advertisers that know how to get into your subconscious and make you believe the product you just bought is no longer any good.

I kept my Pioneer Kuro for 12 years before getting my Sony A8H.
