Yes, I recall reading the article that Penton posted about Wandavision where they literally shipped a load of LG OLEDs to the filmmakers so they could post the show remotely during the pandemic.

But the fact remains that they shouldn't be used for grading purposes, which is what that survey seems to suggest. They're a fine client monitor but no consumer TV should be used as an actual source monitor for grading, especially with the near black issues that consumer OLEDs have.

Does it really matter though if the content is made specifically to be streamed to watch on a Tv or mobile device?

So quality doesn’t matter any more? Christ almighty, might as well chuck it all in then, I’m selling my ZD9 and replacing it with a 32” Beko LCD with built in DVD player.

When the (video) noise hits your eye, like a big pizza pie...that's moiré!

Geoff,

I heard the very latest consumer OLEDs have resolved the near black issue, but is your understanding differently? I'm considering possibly moving to a new living room display.

Seems like they've been said to have "fixed it" with every new generation, only for the same or similar issues to creep in with longer term usage i.e. when you're not putting a stunningly good signal through it every time. I'm still wary, put it that way, but even if near black was perfick an WRGB OLED should not be used for actual grading work, especially for HDR, owing to how the extra white sub pixel pollutes the colour volume. As a client monitor used to check how it looks in 'real world' viewing then it's fine, Dolby even recommends using LG OLEDs for this purpose in their DV best practice guides.

I was watching an interview with a colorist from a source I forget (or I'd link it), and he was essentially saying that yes, they have the small professional monitors and also the larger display for seeing it more naturally; and that as the larger displays have improved over time, just naturally he looks more and more to that, though the professional monitor is still there.

I recall the same interview, or at least a very similar sentiment.

They're going back to curved displays? That's interesting.

Correct, in retrospect reviewing the responses to this other question posed –

I’m thinking a large portion of the respondents are freelancers, or colorists from small post houses as the larger facilities tend to shy away from using monitors without SDI input (like consumer TVs) for grading.

The Sony model-number dump included a 97" model in the 85-tier which is cool.

@anthonymoody, where did you see the Sony's model-number dump?
