Sony invited me to Sony/Columbia Pictures Studios on March 21, 2024 to have an in-depth technical presentation for all of the 2024 TVs & Audio Systems. Check out our BRAVIA 9, 8 and 7 webpages that have all of the details and the technical spec. sheets.

One of the big takeaways is Sony's new flagship 2024 BRAVIA 9 is packed with Sony's new 2024 Backlight Master Drive that not only individually controls each of the MiniLEDs but it controls the luminance of each MiniLED.

This is a very nice upgrade that enhances the contrast control and delivers a more detailed images. This is also the same Backlight Master Drive that Sony integrated in the new BVM-3110 Mastering monitor.

Very competitive price on 9 85” compared to the LG 83” G4 ($6500).

Can’t wait for reviews.

$5,500 in the US means it will most likely be £5,000 in the UK. Quite pricey but I am sure there is like 20% Sony tax added to it. Hoping the price drops to around £3,500-£3,800 close to Black Friday.

Totally pumped up for 85 Bravia-9.

Rip-off Britain as usual lol:

75-inch: £4499 / $4000
85-inch: £4999 / $5500

Surprising to see such a small price gap between 75 and 85.

Still don't think Sony is giving their all on the LCD front (with the Bravia 9) like they did with the Z9D back then. And they're still rocking the X-wide thing.

Sony's new flagship BRAVIA 9 QD MiniLED TV is a very big upgrade.

I just put up all of the .pdf technical specification sheets for all of Sony's new 2024 TVs on our website.

If native contrast is higher than the ZD9 it wouldn't bother me much.

Yeah. As much as I want to stick with LCD (Sony LCD only, mind you) when mah Zed dies, if I can't get something as good - and don't give a shit about a new one being even brighter - then I might as well go for an OLED. Trouble is, as good as Sony's QD sets have been they're now dumping that tech (prolly having flashbacks to when they used to source Samsung panels for their LCDs, lol) for these Mini LED LCDs and so their only OLEDs are gonna be grotty old WRGB panels. Just...gah. Maybe I should stick an A95L on the credit card and be done with it.

Come on boyos, let's give the Bravia 9 a chance here. A high-end Sony LCD with thousands of zones isn't going to be anything to sneeze that. But either way it's disappointing that Europe won't get the 65", so if one needs/wants a 65" the Bravia 9 simply isn't an option no matter how good it turns out to be.

I also think the Bravia 7 is going to be one to look out for in the 2024 lineup. According to what's being said, it's an X95L minus X-Wide Angle and X-Anti Reflect. That's going to be a great TV in its own right.

As for Sony and OLED, don't fall for the fear mongering, Geoff! Vincent Teoh himself has been guilty of throwing fuel on that fire with clickbaity videos, but the truth is QD-OLED isn't going anywhere. The A95L carries over as the flagship OLED for this year; it was released so late in 2023 that it simply isn't time for a refresh yet. It stays in production. Bravia 9 is the 2024 flagship, and then we will in all likelihood see a successor to A95L next year. So if you end up wanting a Sony QD-OLED, don't worry, you'll get your chance.

It wasn't clickbait I was working from, I just assumed that the A95L was going to be taken out of production as it's 'last year's model' and thought the shift to high-end being LCD-only was permanent. Glad to hear that won't be the case, as no 65" option for the Bravia 9 immediately rules me out, I simply don't have the room (or the funds) for anything biggerer.

Indeedly, it's just that their Master Series sets tend to have a different, sometimes longer life cycle. And it also seems they may alternate between OLED and LCD for their flagship from year to year. We'll see.

It'll be interesting to see if they bring the 65" over to Europe next year. North America found itself in a similar spot last year, when they got the X95L in 85" but not the smaller sizes, while Europe and Asia got the X95L in 65" and 75" in addition to the 85". So them skipping the 65" for Bravia 9 this year doesn't necessarily mean the end of 65" top of the line LCDs for us.

It's what's around when the Zed dies is what concerns me, as I don't want to have to 'make do'. I want a TV that's good enough at what it does to stay relevant for another seven years (and counting).
