Point being my dad was Irish (though from Belfast, but I ain't touching that part hehe ) So cycling and soccer were basically ingrained in me (my dad actually started the coaching program at school). And then the "N. American sports took over as I also played on the school's football team.

But watching it has dwindled after the Montreal 1976 Olympics were I was very fortunate to assist to the July 29, 1976 Bronze Medal match between the Soviet Union and Brasil. All I can say is there were many local fans highly disappointed lol.

I know, like you, all this "real world" video look just doesn't cut it for movies and I can't stand watching anything else than sports with motion smoothing. What I would like to see though is a fast paced action movie, concerts or sports before I close my mind to HFR. Tbh I didn't see the Hobbit in HFR, I'm open minded but know I would of hated it at the same time
Yes, it is indeed the 'beautiful game'. It is in my blood to be honest and it is indeed a Part of me. unfortunately, that means the heartache of defeat is also a regular thing lol.

Oh, I do understand your passion, while mine soon changed, living in Montreal also means totally deeply passionate fans of the Montreal Canadiens, aka The Habs in hockey. I don't know if this still holds through but at least a little while ago the Habs was the most prolific team in all pro sports as far as winning history. Last year I believe Sports Illustrated did a countdown of the sports world most prestigious and recognizable team logos and the Habs were #1, over giants like the Yankees.

As far as HFR, you know, throughout history technological advancements have always been ill received by the purists, and it does make sense, after all the purists have a larger and longer vested interest in the "pure" art form, not just the end result. It was true with talkies, color, wide screen in cinema, electric guitars, distortion, the unholy synthesizers, digital recording, CDs etc for music, film to digital in photography. You chose the art it's the same. But once you reach a level were you have more fans than not, it changes and becomes the de facto new standard. So it won't happen without hurting the most dedicated crowds first, it sucks but that's what history tells us, and you know what they say about history?

Interesting stuff. As for the HFR who knows. I like my tradition though.

It makes real world imagery appear more natural because humans see at frame rates higher than that traditionally captured and displayed. I haven’t heard anyone who has seen the demos of BBC’s HFR real world content at last year’s IBC ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01ghcm9 ) that later complained about it looking too video-ish.

Motion picture content shot and displayed at 120fps might be difficult for many to handle who have become accustomed to viewing cinema for years at 24fps.

On the other hand, it wouldn’t bother me at all if the Russian women’s curling team does well, as Anna certainly has a way with promoting the sport of curling….. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/ol...icle-1.1609311

Although not featuring Dolby Vision, we should at least briefly make note of another more expeditious pathway chosen for bringing consumers more dynamic range to imagery….that being Sony’s version. For Sony consumer electronics’ first in-home implementation of greater dynamic range to 4K picture quality will be with some so anointed models boasting “3x the brightness range compared to conventional LED TVs” -

http://store.sony.com/84.6-diag-x950...s-CES-2014-TVs

and, the thing is, Sony’s solution relies only upon current traditional infrastructure delivery methods, as opposed to the more intensive ecosystem requirement involved for full Dolby Vision.

So, the question becomes….given Sony’s heritage for producing high quality TVs (albeit at some cost to the consumer)…..will that expected excellent TV hardware and software be sufficient enough in producing a final picture quality better than the more intensive infrastructural end-to-end approach of full Dolby Vision utilized with other (non-Sony) consumer electronics TV brands?

I find curling to be strangely compelling. The British women got beat 9-6 by the Canucks earlier today in a very tight match, though the Brits did smash the USA by a record score of 12-3 yesterday.

Competitive motorcyclists are inclined to already know the answer to at least the best method, if one is top notch and has access to top notch tools and materials.

Analogy - In order to get the most horsepower out of a high performance engine would it be best to design and build a custom expansion chamber (a complete *exhaust pipe*, if you will, for all those non-moto readers) or, do you think that simply modifying the baffling at the end of the stock pipe (to be less restrictive but remain legal) with a bolt-on device would provide equal performance?

The increased bandwidth requirement (about 20-25%) needed to implement even full Dolby Vision is far less than that needed for going from HD -> 4K.
In Friday a week, a panel consisting of very knowledgeable technologists from Disney, Fox and Dolby with a representative from MovieLabs as the moderator, ‘MovieLabs' being “a technology joint venture of Disney, 20th Century Fox, Paramount, Sony Pictures, Universal and Warner Bros” (more about them here...http://www.movielabs.com/AboutUs/index.html ) is scheduled to discuss proposals for standardizing HDR and wide color gamut (WCG) for consumer delivery.
