As far as HFR, you know, throughout history technological advancements have always been ill received by the purists, and it does make sense, after all the purists have a larger and longer vested interest in the "pure" art form, not just the end result. It was true with talkies, color, wide screen in cinema, electric guitars, distortion, the unholy synthesizers, digital recording, CDs etc for music, film to digital in photography. You chose the art it's the same. But once you reach a level were you have more fans than not, it changes and becomes the de facto new standard. So it won't happen without hurting the most dedicated crowds first, it sucks but that's what history tells us, and you know what they say about history? ![]() Last edited by pentatonic; 02-12-2014 at 05:23 PM. |

It makes real world imagery appear more natural because humans see at frame rates higher than that traditionally captured and displayed. I haven’t heard anyone who has seen the demos of BBC’s HFR real world content at last year’s IBC ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p01ghcm9 ) that later complained about it looking too video-ish.
Motion picture content shot and displayed at 120fps might be difficult for many to handle who have become accustomed to viewing cinema for years at 24fps. |

No matter any other sporting results, I will consider the winter Olympics to be a success if Russia doesn’t win gold in men’s hockey….a grand success if they don’t medal at all in men’s hockey for I am not a fan of Putin.
On the other hand, it wouldn’t bother me at all if the Russian women’s curling team does well, as Anna certainly has a way with promoting the sport of curling….. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/ol...icle-1.1609311 |

http://store.sony.com/84.6-diag-x950...s-CES-2014-TVs and, the thing is, Sony’s solution relies only upon current traditional infrastructure delivery methods, as opposed to the more intensive ecosystem requirement involved for full Dolby Vision. So, the question becomes….given Sony’s heritage for producing high quality TVs (albeit at some cost to the consumer)…..will that expected excellent TV hardware and software be sufficient enough in producing a final picture quality better than the more intensive infrastructural end-to-end approach of full Dolby Vision utilized with other (non-Sony) consumer electronics TV brands? |

Analogy - In order to get the most horsepower out of a high performance engine would it be best to design and build a custom expansion chamber (a complete *exhaust pipe*, if you will, for all those non-moto readers) or, do you think that simply modifying the baffling at the end of the stock pipe (to be less restrictive but remain legal) with a bolt-on device would provide equal performance? |

An analogy for a type of high performance engine would be, in broad strokes, one proposed specification to the major Hollywood studios for Next Generation Video….http://www.movielabs.com/ngvideo/Mov...deo%20v1.0.pdf
