Buy this player has many risk first is the warrantly, highly unlikey they would honor any warrantly since that player was from oversea. And newer blu-ray movie could had issue playing because they might to add codes to make region free player can't play.

My Momitsu from HKFlix arrived a little while ago -- broken. I could hear a rattling inside the player, then the flap covering the disc tray fell off in my hand. I hope I can make a quick exchange.

*edit* OK, on looking closer, it's not a flap, but the extended front of the disc tray which becomes the cover when the disc tray is closed. Looks like it was just glued on.

The front of the unit is also scratched up for a new unit. (Most of the protective film covering it had peeled away.)

My first unit was a lemon as well (wouldn't load discs). They quickly sent me a new one and so far, so good. Momitsu has promised firmware upgrades for this player.

350 is a lot money for a blu-ray player, i remember back in the days, region free player were cost less than brand name, but blu-ray is other way around. Blu-ray has more issue playing disk then dvd does because of studio.

I have read this thread a couple of times, but I am a bit of a dolt when it comes to technical jargon, so I'll ask a simple question in hopes of receiving a very simple answer.

The 899 is no longer available, but the 799 looks about the same, so the question really applies to the 799.

If I have an HDMI receiver with no HD audio decoding, will the Momitsu decode TrueHD and HTS-HD onboard and send the decoded signal to the receiver? In other words, will I hear TrueHD and DTS-HD if I connect the 799 via HDMI to a receiver without those decoders? If so, what settings are needed?

Did anybody who owns a 899 install the firmware update from Momitsu's webpage and if so did you notice any changes?

Multiple sources (AVS, DVDBeaver, HDD) have confirmed that the Sherwood BDP-5004, available here in the States, is a clone of the BDP-899 and uses the same region-free remote codes.

Get it for less than $175 from Amazon or TheNerds.net (use code "cactus" for an extra $9.99 off). Will report back as soon as I get it from TheNerds.net.
