United Kingdom Multi-region player?

I apologise if I've missed an obvious thread for this (I have checked...) but can anyone recommend a reliable multi-region player? I just imported some Criterion's, and the time has come to get something capable of playing them.

I've been looking at the Panasonic BD75 on Multiregionmagic, but I can't help but think £180 is a lot for that? Ideally I'd go for an Oppo or something, but I can't justify that outlay!!

What is everyone else using, and is MRM a reputable dealer?

Thanks

I bought the Technika BRSS10 Blu-Ray Player from Tesco Direct for £46 inc shipping. It plays the Criterions fine but I don't think they stock it anymore. Try and grab one from ebay if there are any for a similar price.

Switch on, open tray, press "set-up" on remote enter 9113 to make it multiregion.

Thank you - I will have a look!

-Edit - Checked and it seems like you can't find them any more

I recently picked up the Panasonic BDX1200 for £50 from Richer Sounds. It needs to be flashed with the Australian firmware (a painless process) before it's multi-region but I'm very happy with it.

To be fair John, there is another alternative.

I got into Criterion last month and decided to get myself something to play them. I opted for a player I could get from the UK that I could flash and turn it into a Region A player. After some painful searching, I found the Philips BDP 3300. This is a UK player that you overlay a US firmware over to make it Region A. You don't need any converters or anything as it is a UK machine.

Now I have a player for my UK discs and another player for my US. Hope that helps. If you want anymore details, let me know.

It probably would be better to get a US player that can either be 220V compatible or get one anyway and get a transformer box for it and be good to go with that. I had to get transformer boxes for most of my electronics when I lived in Germany since they weren't 220V friendly.

Thanks guys - so is there something against a modded player, or is it just that they're expensive?

I'd consider a player that was flashed to play them, to be honest I just want to get something of quality that will play the BD's. Though I'm not paying for an Oppo

Might be worth you lot having a look round (most likely place to find them will be eBay) for either the Curtis/Tevion DVD1100 models that were floating around a year or so ago. They're hardly ground-breaking players but they're region free, cheap and certainly do the job.

The Tevion was what I had prior to my Toshiba - started finding it problematic playing certain discs so had to replace it.

They were never anything special but I got a Curtis 2 years ago for £20 so ya know, you get what you pay for.

I'm not too fussed about region C, so my solution was to import a PS3 from Canada. I use that to play region A BDs, and PS3 games are all region-free so that's not an issue.

Doesn't the PS3 convert it's own power supply as well?

Yep, just use a UK figure 8 power cable and you're sorted.

has anyone encountered problems with any 3D blu-rays using the Toshiba 3200 with the AUS firmware? I haven't tried any myself yet but i do have Prometheus on pre-order.

The reason i ask is because a lot of players seem to need firmware updates with some new discs so bit worried it could affect the compatability of this player in the future

It's the same player, the KB on the end is just the offical code for it but no point continuously writing it in posts.

Where you find it at that price?
