It's very frustrating why they butcher up the subway on weekends. Yeah, nobody takes the subway on weekends so lets make lots of service changes.

Should they do it during the weekday when more have to go to work? I haven't had any major issues traveling on weekends. Yes, you have to leave earlier to account for delays, but once you know this, it hardly becomes a big issue.

Then you don't live where I live...where the subway regularly breaks down OR, if it's scheduled, the entire line is shut down and we have to take shuttle buses.

But, OTOH, I miss those days.

Yeah, I haven't had it that bad on weekends. I have a 2 train on my block, and a 3 train 2 blocks down from me. Atlantic ave is about 5 or so stops away, and they have a variety of alternatives for me to get to the east or west side of Manhattan. Sometimes I'd have to wait over 20 mins, and sometimes have to take 1 or 2 more trains than I normally would during the week, but no shuttle buses. I also have had to take a cross-town bus at 34th street sometimes to go from west to east when certain trains were skipping stops.

Part of my weekly routine was checking MTA's Weekender page on Thursday or Friday to see what's in store for the weekend, and plan accordingly.

The meat processing plant near Calgary which supplies most of the meat for Western Canada is also shut down...

Groceries could see meat shortages by end of week

Quote:
Beef, chicken and pork could be as scarce as toilet paper soon because so many meat processing plants have been temporarily shut down amid the coronavirus pandemic, industry experts are warning.

"We've just completed our third week of reduced slaughter and production," Dennis Smith, a commodity broker/livestock analyst with Archer Financial Services in Chicago, said. "My guess is that about one week out, perhaps around May 1, shortages will begin developing at retail meat counters."

Overall meat production is down 25 percent, Smith said, "which is a huge decline."

In Race for a Coronavirus Vaccine, an Oxford Group Leaps Ahead

Quote:
In the worldwide race for a vaccine to stop the coronavirus, the laboratory sprinting fastest is at Oxford University.

Most other teams have had to start with small clinical trials of a few hundred participants to demonstrate safety. But scientists at the university’s Jenner Institute had a running start on a vaccine, having proved in previous trials that similar inoculations — including one last year against an earlier coronavirus — were harmless to humans.

That has enabled them to leap ahead and schedule tests of their new coronavirus vaccine involving more than 6,000 people by the end of next month, hoping to show not only that it is safe, but also that it works.

The Oxford scientists now say that with an emergency approval from regulators, the first few million doses of their vaccine could be available by September — at least several months ahead of any of the other announced efforts — if it proves to be effective.

First saw this warning last week so we went to Walmart and stocked up. Freezer is now 100% full. Should last us for about 45 days eating one good dinner a day.

I do recommend that if you shop at Walmart you go over to their fish freezers and pickup a bunch of their packages of Tilapia Fillets. 5 to a package (individually wrapped) about $4 a package.

I don't eat fish but I could definitely see myself stocking up on beef, chicken and eggs the next time I go. Just in case.

I actually got a letter about mine today, from the White House, about how the stimulus check is meant to help the American people get through this unprecedented crisis.

Great, another wave of hoarding on the horizon... *LOL*

People are going to be so confused when they finally get their staples back that they won't know what to do with them. They'll be eating the toilet paper and wiping their asses with steak.

Not a WSJ subscriber, but I know that the TILDA study (click on the hyperlink to read the pdf) is one of the latest Vit D studies relating to COVID-19 - https://www.tcd.ie/news_events/artic...ilda-research/

Since it can be complicated with regards to figuring out thee optimal Vit D supplement dosage as that determination is multifactorial and based upon age, etc., rather than simply self-medicating, I think it’s a good idea to speak with your physician first. In terms of other OTC supplements, during flu and now coronavirus ‘season’ I take (600 mg. b.i.d.) NAC based on this study - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9230243

25% vs. the 79% in the placebo group arre pretty damn good results
