If Lucas’s wife is a fan of the original versions, maybe she can convince him to release them. ;D

Ah, finally some important discussion about the original trilogy: nipples.

Every change made to Empire improved the film IMHO. The original had some pretty bad special effects so I was really happy they did something about that. I just wish these had better transfers because like others I've noticed how bad these transfers really look the more I watch them. Not unwatchable but they need remasters.
Yeah, for a lot of us the special editions are actually mostly good and the improvements are welcomed. It’s the items you highlighted that suck. So really, it’s just two major changes. The rest are great to me.

Personally, if there were a fan edit that took ONLY those two changes out then that’d be my definitive edition.

That's still there, Lucas never removed it.

When Lucas found out nipples were shown, he covered them up with tiny CGI rocks.

I always thought about that possibility since the Final Cut of Blade Runner has been released 10 years ago. That whould be the ideal option imo. Here's what I would personally like to see touched/changed for the Final Cut of Star Wars (which is not that much, I think...)

- The Final Cut would be based on the original theatrical cut from 1977, no newly added scenes or content
- Fix/erase all matte lines
- Consistent lightsaber effects and color correction
- Goof correction: Adding color to Vader's lightsaber in that one particular shot
- Enhanced effect of the Sandspeeder's shadow
- Fix that jump cut when Luke ignites the lightsaber for the very first time
- Enhanced explosion of Alderaan and the Death Star
- Digitally enhance/replace the cardboard-cutouts at the end
- Enhance the matte painting of the prison wing to make it appear much longer
- Color correction of the inner side of the hatch of the escape capsule
- Keep the original color timing from 1977, no heavy magenta

Most of those changes have already been done in George Lucas' special edition but not with enough care and dedication imo.

I think that's actually what will happen should the day finally come that the original originals get restored, it'll end up being what the SEs should've been: new transfer and/or recompositing of the original VFX elements along with lots of goof correction but no fundamental changes to the actual storytelling.

Misread that last word as something else, which would probably be fitting in a porn parody.

I actually don't mind the new battle of Yarvin, it looks and good an much more dynamic without being OOT.

The battle of yavin is 100% better in the SE and arguably the best change of the entire thing. It’s simply way better.

Wrong. Not a true story. It should be left to the 70's....film is also a time and place not just about the film itself but about the technology, what was going on in the world at the time, styles (see Star Wars logo) etc...

hence...stop messing with the damn films and inserting revisionist history. If it was not ready in 1977 then you should not have released it in 1977. Here endeth the lesson.

Exactly. These films are a time capsule - a window into the past. Leave them alone.

It helped that Lucas did actually go around the room when looking for things to change, Dennis Muren came up with a bunch of stuff that always bugged him about the space battle and so when he was given the chance he did them pretty damned well...unlike that abortion of a fan edit mentioned above ^.

Speaking of...

When I saw AOTC in the theater, Padme and Anakin might have been on Tatooine, but in that tight white top, it looked like her chest thought it was Hoth.

Then, when I got the DVD, it looked like they painted over those particular protuberances in the force.

Remake these movies. They are old, outdated, with bad sound and special effects. They are not acceptable compared today's movies. Even 1999 Phantom Menace is better.
