As sue happy as Americans are I was always surprised that some a**hole didn't bring a lawsuit against Lucas when he released the non-anamorphic lazerdisc rips as bonus discs on DVD. When the Three Faces Star Wars trilogy was released on VHS it said on the back of the box that this was the last chance to ever own those version again.

And then they got a secondary vhs box set release. I remember both.

Not that I’m expecting anything special (UOT 4K) next year, but sooner or later something’s got to give. Just a matter of time.

It could be that he didn't need Lucas's approval but sought it out anyway. Essentially, what Dykstra was doing was asking for exhibition of a 42 year old print of HIS work to be endorsed by the movie's director. Since the current version, though still having his name on it and, for better or worse, does not represent the work that Lucas hired him to produce and which he ultimately delivered and received an Academy award for.

I think the fact that Lucas wasn't taken for granted and that Dykstra was open and honest about it should satisfy all interested parties. Fans included.

If you think about, this episode upholds Lucas's stance on an artist's work not being mishandled or misappropriated without their consent.

Why does Lucas care if people want to watch the theatrical cuts? What’s the big f***in’ deal? They’re just versions of movies that many people love. You don’t see Ridley Scott whining about the theatrical cut of Blade Runner or the fact that it was released. What is Lucas so worried about? Is he afraid that (God forbid) people will actually prefer them over the special editions? That mentality makes it sound like he doesn’t even think the special editions are that much better. Maybe he regrets most of the changes he made to the films over the last couple decades but doesn’t want to admit it, so he has to pretend that the latest Blu-ray versions are his ultimate masterpiece versions.

I imagine he doesn’t want newcomers to watch the PT and then think less of the OT. However, if that’s the case he should’ve hired Adywan, because he already made better versions of the SE than Lucas did.

That's like saying Michaelangelo should have hired some unknown artist to "fix" his frescos.

That's the same reason we can't have the Snyder Cut of Justice League.

Or maybe he doesn't think about it as much as you do?

Who said Lucas whines about it or that Ridley Scott didn't complain? And I believe Scott actually did complain about it.

You are jumping to a lot of conclusions about Lucas' feelings and you can't possibility know what is going on in his head.

Maybe he only doesn't allow the original OT out just to wind people up.

And aren't all films getting altered now anyway? Remastering a film is changing from it's original state.

Is a lot of unused footage shot by Snyder?

The stubbornness comes from fans not embracing the prequels with the same love.

Crowbarring sh*tty prequel trilogy crap into the classic trilogy is his FU to the fans that also turned their backs on his SE TRILOGY abominations.

Adding a Dug to Jabba’s palace somehow enhances the film?

I think it's a neat way to tie the two original trilogies a little closer together. Does a Dug in Jabba's palace hurt your feelings so horribly? Why not shrug it off?

Why even make Jabba's palace door look bigger in the exterior shot, if you're not going to make it consistent with the interior shot as R2 and 3PO enter?

I hadn't thought about that, was too busy paying attention to the story

As if the door wasn’t sufficiently large enough already.

Do you know for sure it's large enough for EVERY creature that Jabba might be friends with?
