Yeah, i hate that at the end of Return of the Jedi during the celebration scene, that im watching the classic 1983 movie then suddenly for a minute or so im inserted into feeling like im watching one of the prequels, then i'm put back into the original movie again.

Oh, okay. So when I speculate about something it’s “jumping to conclusions” but when someone else does it it’s not.

Oh, okay. So you believe Scott has complained about it in the past but you have no belief about how he feels about it. So basically you don’t think what someone says is an indicator of how they feel. I guess I shouldn’t believe anything you’ve told me since I can’t look into your mind to verify it.

See above.

Let’s not harp on the word “logical” then. Instead I’ll say, I’ve never heard a single good reason from Lucas why the unaltered OT can’t coexist with the special editions.

Some of them are cosmetic. Many of them are in-your-face and pointless and ruin the scenes they’re in. Similar to a person photo-bombing a picture you’re in, except instead of photo-bombing in the background they’re photo-bombing in the foreground.
You’re not doing me any favours - I’d be fine with you answering in the way I am. Save yourself some time.

About this issue yes - I’m not saying you always do it.

“I believe” in that instance means I have a memory of it. No I don’t know what goes on in Scott’s mind unlike you thinking you know what Lucas emotional state is.

And no what a person says is not always an indicator of what they think. People can lie. You must know that.

No good reason from your point of view but he might have one.

I have no idea which additions are in the face and many movies have VFX which are pointless other than fun. They ruin the scenes because you allow them to.

I think we are just repeating ourselves over and over. Even though I disagree and think you are being a touch moan-y about Lucas himself I’m glad it is only a “touch”. Most people I encounter on this either are nasty or get that way quickly. You are not ranting or hating so

I havnt got the unaltered versions, iv got the special edition dvds that i bought back when they came out in 2004. Since having my Blu-Ray player i havnt got much intrest now in wanting to watch dvds on it. But i did a while back for the first time when watching the Star Wars dvds, and even tho it was disheartening to have to watch them on dvd instead of Blu-Ray (plus the fact they are the altered versions of course, altho still better than the even more altered Blu-Rays,) i remember feeling quite surprised with how good they looked on dvd. They didnt look bad at all.

But going back to the despecialized versions, the main thing that's held me back in getting them, is that they are 720p right? And im sure i read once that either there is now some 1080p versions, or that they was in the process of being created, so i wondered if it was worth waiting to see if they ever end up making an appearance. Dunno if they will.

George Lucas Approved Rare Pre-Special Edition Star Wars Screening

Quote:
It was a 70mm print struck for the UK in ‘81 that was never screened because it tore the first time it was projected. There’s about two seconds of major damage right as the Death Star explodes, but otherwise it looks like it could’ve been struck yesterday.

The Academy got special permission from George Lucas to screen it in a double bill with ROGUE ONE, and that’s huge, because this is the first time Lucas has signed off on a public screening of the original version of the film since before 1997.

And it was displayed in 4K?? Time to party like it’s 1999, folks (you know, before we knew how bad TPM would be)!

If Disney gives us a official announcement by December then we might know what we are getting in the box set.

Yes. It’s a little known fact that Harrison Ford didn’t want to reprise the role of Han Solo so they got Steve Martin to replace him for the entire film.

They should have done that for TFA - it would have been so much more enjoyable.
