Lucas himself said that he went into the the development and productiom of the ST with the knowledge that, by choice, he was no longer to be the dictator or arbiter of everything that went in it. He later chose to departed because the reality of that situation made him feel "awkward"

The idea that Lucasfilm betrayed him or an agreement for him to "oversee Star Wars" is a myth.

His subsequent, bitter, "white slavers" interview leads me to believe otherwise...

He said the white slavers bit first. Either way it does not support the theory that Lucasfilm betrayed him or reneged on any promise that he would be the overseer of the new trilogy.

I’ll buy it anyway but I hope that Sideshow power droid has an electronic feature so that it makes the GONK sound.

Scans of Star Wars and Jedi have been released in 4k already. Work on Empire is ongoing.

George Lucas specifically said, that Disney chose not to use his story treatments for the ST, after he sold Star Wars to Disney. I don’t understand why this is a myth, or is it just another ST defence thing?

It's a Disney thing.

I think myth refers to the idea that Disney ever committed to using those treatments or to allowing him to 'oversee' Star Wars moving forward.

Nobody's disputing that he said that.

Was he promised that all his story elements would be used? Did Disney/Lucasfilm betrayed him or renege on an agreement that he would be the arbiter of what did or did not go in it? No. He admitted later that not being the dictator/overseer was the reality of the situation he knowingly and willingly volunteered for. And by volunteered for I mean paid $4b for.

The conversation you've joined was prompted by the claim that Lucas was to be the overseer and dictator of the trilogy and then got stiffed. It's a false, mythic narrative that Lucas himself has since busted.

They also used parts of his treatment for TLJ and I hear people are very unanimously happy about how TLJ turned out.

I've never seen Obi-Wan cut in half like this. The top of his cloke always falls instantly. What cut is this?

2:21

Edit: Oh, I guess it was behind the scenes.

Is that from the DVD boxset? There's some great footage in there.

You specifically said “The idea that Lucasfilm betrayed him or an agreement for him to "oversee Star Wars" is a myth.” The comments George Lucas made about Disney not using his treatments, came across as if he did feel somewhat betrayed, even if there was nothing legally requiring them to use his stories. I definitely felt he sounded pretty bitter about it all, at least initially.

Disney took my children and all I got was four billion dollars and this lousy t-shirt.

Who wouldn't be bitter.

Or maybe... Disney took my children and I was led to believe that they’d take on board my advice on how best to raise them, but they didn’t, and all I got was four billion dollars and this lousy t-shirt.

Yeah, that could be. They could have given him four billion dollars and promised that they wouldn't touch the old movies without his approval and that he would be in charge of the new movies too.

That sounds like a pretty standard multi-billion dollar deal.
