She wasn’t asked that. She was asked if any further changes would be made to the existing cuts. She seemed somewhat confused by the question because it was worded strangely. I have no idea why that guy didn’t ask her if they’d ever release the original versions. That was a perfect opportunity.

No, that was her answer when she was asked if Lucasfilm planned to make any more changes to the movies.

In the same interview she said that there was no arrangement or agreement in place which dictated what versions of what movies could be released.

I fully believe that there won't be an hd release of the theatrical until well after he has shuffled off the mortal coil.
Even then, do not look for it to hit disc 1st, if at all.
Why?

Press Release From Disney:
"Not Seen Since 1977, The Original Theatrical Version of Star Wars. Now Available Only On Disney+"

I doubt very much that something like that will happen in the foreseeable future.

The very moment that Disney or/and Lucasfilm opens the door even a 1/10th of an inch for the original versions being released via streaming, half of the entire Star Wars fanbase will immediately double down and demand blu-ray and UHD physical disc releases as well, or else...boycotts/anti-Lucasfilm campaigns on social media/you name it. And we have a divided fandom again and it will be entirely self-inflicted.

Yeah, meltdowns will ensue, but Id blame Disney at that point. They have every opportunity to do things right - as in releasing quality 4K discs so everyone can enjoy the versions of the films they want in premium quality. Sorry but !@#$ their streaming service. Discs are way better than streaming and something like SW clearly deserves disc releases with the best quality possible. Why is this so hard????

The Original Trilogy in 4K HDR on Disney+ looks better than I've seen it in a long time. The colors look so much better. The only problem is, these are of course the special editions. But if you have to watch the special editions, Disney+ is the best way to go, at least until the inevitable 4K UHD discs are released. By all accounts they should arrive some time in early 2020, most likely corresponding to The Rise of Skywalker disc release. Probably a boxed set.

Not sure we'll see an official release of the unaltered versions any time soon, if ever, and for that reason the despecialized discs are my default preference. But I can't deny, that 4k resolution and those improved colors on Disney+ do make me smile.

I've only watched the original Trilogy so far. I'll check out the prequel upscales, Rogue One, and Solo later this week. I've not had any playback issues. Had a minor issue getting titles in my watchlist, but the issue resolved itself. Little glitches are expected with the launch of a new highly anticipated service.

All that content for less per month than I used to spend once a week on a couple of worn out VHS tapes from Blockbuster.

But that is just the point, they know that for at least some, they will subscribe for at least a month to see them.

I would love to be wrong on this, but the money for Disney would make too much sense to not go streaming 1st. Why produce physical media when you do not have to? Yes, they are having issues, as all initial launches have {the 1st days of MLB were hilariously bad} but they won't last.

Physical media is obviously superior as a fan, but business wise, that is starting to make less sense. I hope I am wrong.

You might be right business wise. I would think they'd supplement their income nicely with discs though. I mean, how much can they cost to produce? Not much. And they can get $20 bucks a pop easy for any original star wars release, special editions or unaltered originals. Same for the prequels too. Id pay $20 a disc all day for any of it with good UHD transfers.

But, if theres not enough money in it then so be it, right?

I completely agree.

Again, I hope I am wrong. The OTC in 4K would be glorious.

In the larger picture - the much larger picture - it will eventually dawn on consumers, what the long term implications of The Walt Disney company eating up some of their bigger competitors and acquiring complete market dominance will be.

Clue: Disney+ will not stay at $7 per month in the future. Not even close.

Correct - Disney isnt a charity. This entry level pricing is just to get you "in". It'll go up, way up from there and it wont take long. They'll spew BS about how" its costing them more for content" or blah blah but its just nonsense. It'll be $20, then $22.50, on and on.

This is why I hope someone oversees Disney and their gobbling up of studios and content. It is NOT good for the consumer despite what the Disney defense force thinks. Id much rather keep the competition healthy in the industry versus Disney owning everything.

Agreed, particularly when all the current stuff in transition runs out of its streaming rights on other platforms. There will be a time where you will only be available to see some (all?) Star Wars and Marvel content on Disney+. Current discs will of course still work, but eventually Disney won't release shows on disc at all. They will be exclusive to stream only on Disney+.
