Watched A New Hope today on Disney Plus. It looked good enough but for some reason it was only showing in French. The dialogue was all English but the opening crawl was French. I saw no way to change it.

Please share the lotto numbers if you have them.

Yep - you get it. This push to streaming-only is fine for some but not for everyone. As I clearly laid out...you own NOTHING then. You just let them auto-deduct your monthly fee and they allow you to stream stuff. No ownership at all. Unless they allow DRM-free downloads which they wont.

Im more concerned too with Disney owning too much content. Thats more streaming-only/locked down content and guess what happens to the price when there is little or no competition? This just in: The price goes up and the quality could easily go down since theres no other choice. And they can muck with the content any way they see fit. Like having only one restaurant on the planet to eat at. Whats their incentive to keep the cost down & the food quality high?

I dont get why people are OK with this or dont get how basic economics/free markets work?
Well said and also very true but sadly people seem to care less and less about this. It seems that Blu-ray.com is slowly becoming the streaming forum.

For some reason the Maclunky change was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. Don't even know why really, I'm just exhausted from all the changes. Looking forward to trying out 4k77 and 4k83 soon.

Interesting. I wonder why no one ever mentions the green Star Destroyer lasers in the classic opening fly-over. The lasers are white on the 2004 DVDs and the 2011 Blu-rays (always bugged me), but green on all releases previous to 2004... and they have been restored to vivid green on the new 4K versions. Not that I care... 4K77 v1.4 all the way, for me!!!

Huh? Those laser bolts are bright and clear green on my standard blu-ray release. I'm 99% sure of this, but I'll gladly check and confirm it if anyone wants me to.

I'm actually fine with nearly every change GL made. The only ones I hate is adding Jabba in ANH and adding Jedi Rocks in RotJ

Hmm... I don't think so; it's something that's always bugged me. I'm talking about the actual flyover, NOT the following angle with the two ships approaching us -- they're brilliant green in that. In the actual flyover -- MAYBE there are a couple shots off the top that are green, before the Star Destroyer even appears -- but there's definitely a moment mid-Star-Destroyer where it fires off about four volleys that are white. Again... just on the DVDs and Blu-rays; it HAS been fixed on the streaming 4K.

Oh Bill Hunt...
Once again "reporting" on things people have done better already.

There's videos for all the movies. Extremely detailed and lengthy.

I agree, I actually like most of his changes in the various movies.
The worst ones for me being Han shooting, Obi wan's scream, and the some of the end music in Return of the Jedi.

For Despecialized vs 4k77, I usually like Despecialized. But not on all the scenes, just most. I'll have to compare them closer.

The change that bugs me the most with the Disney+ versions is how much DNR they put on ROTJ. Backgrounds look smeared, faces look plasticky. It stands out after IV and V which aren't nearly as bad.

Not in love with the Disney trend of de-noising older movies this far.

Yeah, this is true. Flyover bolts are whitish...

... these bolts are as green as Baby-Yoda's smooth bum.

Yeah, I was only talkin' about the flyover. Glad it was fixed... even if I'll never watch any post-1997 version again for the rest of my life.

EDIT: I'm just always surprise no one but me has a problem with the white lasers in the flyover, or even mention them as a "fix" in this new 4K edition. Such an iconic shot, it was always an obvious problem for me on the 2004 and 2011 discs.

I would love 4k too but I know the audio will suck, as with all their blus/4k for some time now, and these probably won't have DV on disc like the other Disney discs (not steaming though ).

There is a so called 4k made of the OG releases claiming it's from 35mm around the "web" that's not bad looking. Only ep4 and ep6 that I could find though. I don't think Disney will release these, the unaltered DVDs are probably the last we'll see officially.
