I have just recently watched the Unaltered Original Trilogy in HD. It has been a long, long time since I've seen anything but the special editions.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with these movies, including the special effects. Especially the special effects! In fact, they are something to be extremely proud of. I wish Lucas did not suppress the original versions. I really hope Disney corrects this soon.

There's the old saying: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. That definitely applies to these films.

The original films were great achievements for special effects, yes. Necessity is the mother of invention, and by virtue of the limited budget they had to work with they managed to pioneer some groundbreaking techniques.

It's another reason why I want the UOT available; hiding it away like something to be ashamed of is a disservice to the many people (including Lucas himself) involved in its creation.

Still hoping for the Unaltered Original Trilogy to come out at some point. I will not buy these movies on Blu unless they are Unaltered. Until then, my 2006 DVDs will have to do...

I'm just sort of accepting that the original cuts are a pipe dream at this point. If I weren't so worried about getting into legal trouble, I'd just go for the Harmy versions.

I am not as knowledgeable about certain things as many here, but my understanding is that if it is a "scan" of the film then it has to be the original version.
