Those photos are great.

I still can't believe that the franchise is 40 years old!

I was born a week later. My parents carried me as a baby into a screening. It's been a part of my life to some degree ever since.

But please stop making me feel old. I'm not old.

Yet.

Old, young, what difference does it make? Age doesn't matter. I was 21 when Stars Wars was released, and I still love it as much as I did during my first viewing. What really impresses me is that the younger generation seems to enjoy these movies as much as I still do. I don't think age has anything to do with the Stars Wars empire. It's equally loved by the old, the young, and everyone in between. That's what impresses me.

I was born a few months after "Empire" was released, and first saw the OT on VHS at five years old. I saw the 1997 version of A New Hope in theaters with my Mom, but missed the other two until their VHS release. I stayed up past midnight in September of 2004 to grab the first DVD release, and was given the Blu-Rays as a gift five years ago.

Hilarious! I recognize Peter Capaldi but what is that from?

I know a guy who was under the impression "Resistance is futile" came from the Star Wars movies. Haha!

The Thick of It, from the creators of Veep which you might be more familiar with. If you've a taste for British humour of a political bent, and extremely creative swearing you could do worse than check it out, and the spin off movie, In The Loop, is also worth a watch. Malcom Tucker (Capaldi) is one of the great comic creations.

Peter Capaldi and the writers of The Thick Of It have turned swearing into an artform.

Thanks for those clips rodney, I would've loved to have seen the whole thing with John Knoll talking y'all through it.

It's almost as if LFL meticulously archived all this stuff and made sure it was kept in optimal conditions for all these years. Nah.

LucasFilm would have us believe a janitor found it whilst during the rounds ...

"Kathleen Kennedy! Kathleen Kennedy! Look what I found... all these films reels and hard drives."
Kennedy pulls the excited janitor to one side and waves her hand.
"These aren't important. They're not the negatives we've been looking for."
The janitor goes into a stupor and looks far off into the distance."
"These aren't important. They're not the negatives we've been looking for."
"Move along."
"Move along."

The janitor continues about their duties. Kennedy wipes a bead of sweat from her brow.
"Phew! That was close..."
She picks up one of the reels.
"B-Roll footage, that will keep 'em happy for another 40 years."
She taps the sign on the door before closing it. It reads "Hov wars mIllogh qonwI' qoSta' archive".
"I'm glad none of these Star Wars nerds can read Klingon."

Still one of my favorite memories from fandom is watching the One Man Star Wars at Celebration III, recreating Luke taking the mask off in Jedi, then just stating "I thought you were black!".

Anyway, LFL and now Disney is preserving all this, have no fear. The issue is the long night of a thousand cuts as this trove of material comes out drip... by... drip... by... drip...

GIVE US THE 1977 CUT WITH ALL THE BONUSES AND AUDITIONS DAMMIT!!!

Oh, the one-man Star Wars guy! I remember him. I saw him at San Diego ComicCon in 2006 during the fan film awards. He was great.

People still spelling my name wrong after all these years. CaptVeg will get a kick out of this....this comes from a message board post on IGN a billion years ago, just thinking out loud how I was going to show the Star Wars films someday to my newborn niece. It was a lark. Somebody copied and pasted it and spread it around. Then the dude who made a Machete Order blog post about it spelled my name wrong. Well, here we go again. "Ernst" Rister just made Empire Magazine.

Oh, having read that Empire article I like the 'Time Machine' order, I didn't know it had an official name but I've previously mentioned doing the same thing: original originals then the prequels, thus preserving all the narrative twists and turns of the OT, but then watch the SE's after the prequels to better integrate the jury-rigged originals into the saga.

R1, SW, TESB, RotJ, TFA, TLJ, IX

I only watch the PT every few years. It has grown on me somewhat. I don't hate those movies but they are even harder to watch than the SE.
