Watching the films in any order other than production sequence robs the viewer of the ESB twist, imo, if somehow a person has managed to avoid the reveal. For me that moment arguably transcends the films as a whole. For those who were lucky enough to experience it first-hand without knowing the secret were incredibly fortunate. I guess there's something to be said of watching the films in a particular sequence depending on whether it's a first watch or a rewatch.

Sorry, ever since I heard that line in a Nostalgia Critic take on the Holiday Special, I hear it in my head whenever we get a German overtone to Star Wars.

Anyway, LFL and now Disney is preserving all this, have no fear. The issue is the long night of a thousand cuts as this trove of material comes out drip... by... drip... by... drip...

GIVE US THE 1977 CUT WITH ALL THE BONUSES AND AUDITIONS DAMMIT!!!

They might be saving it for the 50th Anniversary but we cant wait that long

I think that is from Star Wars: Fact and Fiction. I didn't go to that panel or make those videos. Someone I was standing in line with at another panel pointed them out to me on his iPad.

Well, we CAN, we just don't WANT to. Truth is, Disney knows we want this, we are begging for it, but a. they have to work something out with Fox and b. they will want to maximize profit. It does seem nuts that they may miss the 40th anniversary, but reality being what it is... well...

We have hope. For now.

well the problem is fans are sick of hearing rumors and just want a simple answer. will the UOT see the light of day or are they gone forever? Those are the movies that made star wars what it is today and not the SE.

I really ought to just get the Despecialised Editions and stop getting my hopes up.

Think I'll do the same. I'll might also finally give in and get the existing box set for the special features discs.

I still have hope but if they haven't announced it at Celebration and for the 40th anniversary, it means they probably aren't coming anytime soon...

Their continued silence regarding the matter is extremely disappointing. It might still happen, but it should have happened a long time ago.

Yup, that's what I'm doing. I've avoided it up to this point because I thought maybe something would come out from Disney sooner, but with no prospects for the 40th anniversary, that's my signal to just go for it.

My firm guess is that 2020 is when we'll see something. Not only will the distribution deal with Fox come to an end on all but the original film, but the entire new trilogy will also be completed. That would make good business sense to unleash a new ultimate collection of the nine Episode films with all the bells and whistles.

Maybe Lucasfilm will release an updated box set for the original Star Wars movies in 2023 for the 40th Anniversary of Return Of The Jedi. Possibly they will release a 9 film box set with updated special features when Episode 9 hits Bluray/UHD or whatever new media we have by then comes out.

I know how to download the Despecialized versions but has any one got any suggestions for burning them to disc? Preferably with menus? I'm using a Mac Mini so I guess I'll need an external burner.

Harmy provides directions for this.

I will not spend money on SE. I would for originals. Sorry Disney.

That massive chant of "RAPED OUR CHILDHOOD" when George Lucas was announced to a live crowd of Star Wars fans was extremely telling. I'm sure Lucasfilm heard the message loud and clear.

I know I could google it but I thought someone here would direct me to a trusted source instead of having to discriminate trough the search results myself.

Thanks

Yeah, fans being respectful to George Lucas at Star Wars Celebration instead of acting like absolute ****s means there's no demand for the UOT and many people in that crowd don't want it. If they announced it then they would've booed or gave it a tepid response instead of rapturous applause.

Nice observation there.

That wasn't supposed to be a referendum on the matter.

For those wanting the originals just buy the special edition DVDs. I have them. They're glorious! I can watch the originals whenever I want! Would I prefer HD quality, yes. But for now I'm glad I can watch SD quality.

Glorious? They're not even 16x9 enhanced. You need your eyes checked.

Everyone should be downloading Despecialized. I've never watched my official Blu-ray's. Not even once. Had they not included all those special features, I would not have even purchased.
