Network has much lower overheads than Studio Canal, so can release more obscure stuff. It’d be nice if they released all the Anglo Amalgamated Carry Ons, but maybe Canal are holding them back or asking too much money. Who knows? Big media corporations can be funny that way.
You also have the problem that of the SC Carry On BDs they were all the colour ones they own excluding Cruising where the film elements are supposedly in very poor condition, so would probably cost a fortune to get an HD master. If colour didn’t sell I expect they have taken the common held view that black & white as for the other films would sell even worse so they wouldn’t make back the costs.

A shame really as for me personally, I would have preferred any of the SC black & white Carry On's over Jack. I certainly don't dislike the film, but Carry On Jack was always my least favourite of all the Anglo-Amalgamated films.

SC don't have a problem selling B&W stuff elsewhere, so I don't think that's a massively important distinction.

Basically, I don't think the sort of people who'd buy Carry On films were, in general, the sort who'd buy the Blu-rays at their high day one asking price so I think sales would be the sole reason we got no more.

Personally, I think the B&W ones are among the strongest entries in the entire run.

I think the issue is that Studio Canal tend to hold the £15 price point for their Vintage Classics for a long time.

It takes ages to see these discounted to £10 at HMV or Amazon and even then it may not be every title in the range.

When people have paid less than £50 for a boxset of all 30 odd Carry Ons on BD, they aren't going to pay £15 or even £10 for a single film.

Is that same customer behaviour as you face with TV on BD where much of the content, even new shows only appears on DVD and Digital.

I guess neither Studio Canal and ITV see the economics of a complete Carry On boxset which would need to be no more than £75 to £100 to get even a reasonable number of sales in the current market. I think no helped by films being see as individual items and priced accordingly whereas at least for TV it's normally sold per season which gives a longer runtime.

SC has certainly released a few B&W films already - the Alastair Sim films were day-one purchases for me and I was pleasantly surprised to see them out on blu-ray. I agree in that the B&W Carry On films are excellent and definitely amongst the best in the series, and I would dearly love SC to release them at some point. However, if the sales figures for the four films already issued were poor, then I guess it's highly unlikely we'll see the rest of the series on blu-ray sadly.

I'm hoping that at least Network may get round to releasing the Rank series eventually. No harm in dreaming, as they say.

Really looking forward to this. My older siblings loved this show and it's just the sort of issue that I will have no problem supporting.
Now if they could just get the new Avemgers blu out I'll be very happy.

In some ways it plays like a sitcom forerunner to the last episode of The Prisoner via Waiting On Me Own for Godot. Curious to see them including The Small World of Sammy Lee when the SC disc is still in print - which hopefully sets a precedent for an Anglo Amalgamated Carry On set...

It does appear to be a website screw up.

I ordered The Four Feathers, Robbery, and The Tamarind Seed. All three for £9.72 shipped. Bargain.
