Networks "Deal of the Week" offers all the individual Edgar Wallace Presents... movies at higher prices than they were in the 40% off sale that ended on MARCH 1st.

Nice. Perhaps a replacement for Robbery, which has unfortunately been delayed until the end of August.

Man With the Golden Arm (The) [BLU-RAY]

New

One of America’s most significant and controversial post-war films, this triple-Oscar-nominated feature boasts a searing performance by Frank Sinatra as a war veteran caught between two worlds as he tries to kick his drug habit and establish a new life; Eleanor Parker is his embittered, manipulative wife, and Kim Novak the young woman who stands by him.

With its groundbreaking subject and an authenticity rarely matched in the many films it inspired, The Man with the Golden Arm combines masterly direction by Otto Preminger and a jazz score by the legendary Elmer Bernstein. It is featured here in a stunning new High Definition transfer, in its as-exhibited theatrical aspect ratio.

Having just served a prison term for possession of heroin, poker dealer Frankie Machine vows to stay clean and find success as a jazz drummer. His wife, left disabled by a car crash, is equally determined he should remain in the lucrative gambling business. And after being asked to deal in a high-stakes game, Frankie’s fear of failure leads him straight back to Louie the dope pusher…

Nice, love the cover. Another one for the wishlist...I'm careful with Network titles now, and won't buy them until I've seen a review (which suits me, 'cause they're cheapest to order from directly).

PS: oh dear, am I right in thinking it looks like they've ditched a Blu-ray release of Without Pity? That would be a shame...was one I was looking forward to in particular!

Have checked Network's website, and yes, it looks like the Blu-ray release of Without Pity has been dropped. Can only find the DVD release listed on their website at the moment.

Has the Blu-ray release of Deadlier Than the Male been pushed back from Monday 27th April (the release date stated on Network's website) to Monday 8th June (the release date stated on Amazon UK)?

Have emailed Network regarding Deadlier Than the Male, and they basically said in their email reply that the release date was pushed back, and it's new release date is the 27th April release date.

Also, their Blu-ray release of Without Pity is no longer scheduled for release. They added that due to the archive nature of their titles, all release dates are subject to change.

Been looking forward to their Blu-ray release of Deadlier Than the Male and their DVD releases of Whodunnit? series 5 and the film Model for Murder.

They got a lot of criticism for one of the ITV licensed movies on BD (I forget which, I don't own it myself) so maybe they're understandably a bit more wary when they receive a substandard HD master.

That would be The Quiller Memorandum, which is one of the worst transfers I've ever seen. Hopefully Twilight Time's US release won't have the digital noise in the night scenes that makes it look like it was shot in a snowstorm.

I got my Blu/DVD combo from amazon UK the other day and Man Who Haunted Himself came in a slim line (DVD height) style case is this common for Network titles? I own a few and they always seem to come in blu ray style cases. The case makes the movie seem like a cheap bargin bin title that you find at dollar stores in the U.S.

I will watch the BLU this weekend I'd never heard of the film until recently.

They did this for 2 of the British Film releases, Man Who Haunted Himself and Perfect Friday. All subsequent British Film blu's were US style slimline G2 cases

Funny that the other title is Perfect Friday in that same style case because that one is on my wishlist also!

They were matching the DVD releases of The British Film series but people didn't like it, so they switched to Blu-ray cases

Update on my previous post. It appeared Network's Blu-ray of Deadlier Than the Male was released today. However, if you've ordered it directly from Network, you should end up being refunded by Network. Received an email from Network earlier today regarding Deadlier Than the Male. There was a technical error on their website with the wrong release date, which has been corrected. It is now Monday 8th June.

A sign that a Blu-ray title from Network isn't going to be delayed or delayed further times, is when stills from the film are put on the Network website page for the Blu-ray title, and no promo stills are on the Network website page yet for Deadlier Than the Male (there are for The Outsider).

I'm really hoping they came through on this one A/V wise, and at the very least it looks the same as the US release. It will best the Image disc by having 5.1 audio.

Yeah I'm definitely gonna pick it up, just like to hear what it's like first (I immediately returned my copy of The Last Seduction, for example).
