I don't have the answer, but I guess it all depends on whether it was filmed 24FPS or 25FPS. TV series like Dekalog and Berlin Alexanderplatz were supposedly shot in 25FPS. Not sure about UFO though.

I could be wrong here, from your other post above you seem to be assuming that 35mm is a guarantee that it was shot 24fps, but that's not the case: the cameras would've been cranked to whatever speed they wanted for shooting.

Some folks insist that Space 1999 was shot 25fps but some aspects were post-produced at 24fps and that it's a weird mix of the two, with the 50Hz DVDs having sped-up music but correct voices, whereas the 24p Blu-rays have the correct music but slightly slowed down dialogue.

What UFO was shot at I've got no idea, but I wouldn't automatically rule out 25fps. If it was that rate then a 1080i50 Blu-ray presentation (encoded similarly to PsF and deinterlaced in the player for a seamless 1080p50 output) would be the appropriate choice.

I'm assuming nothing, just asking the question.

It looks like the Japanese and the German sets are both 1080/24p, so the simplest answer is that 1080/24p is what we will get here

I'm pretty sure the Network Space 1999 series 1 booklet states the same thing:

Shot on 35mm at 25fps, edited and dubbed at 24fps then broadcast at 25fps. Odd, especially considering it was a pretty big budget production.

The Japanese don't use 50Hz video, so their release was always going to be either 1080/30i (as in 1080i at 29.97 fps) or 1080/24p.

As for the German releases, the listings here might say 1080p, but that's the site default, and most of the releases have incomplete specs. Apparently, the German releases are upscaled SD, and probably 576i (PAL) at that.

Based on precedent, Network will have investigated whether the correct speed is 24 fps or 25 fps (as they did for other UK TV series BDs, like The Professionals), and present UFO accordingly. Their listing does say 1080p right now, though. Hopefully, the issue is covered in the book.

Yep, excitement dying down is "complete indifference." I'll be getting it, and being spoilt with so much great animation in HD, it would've been nice is all.

^ That might lead to more questions than answers, Network told me quite definitively that Professionals was shot at 25fps (hence the 1080i50 Blu-ray presentation) but in Andrew Pixley's book for MKI he specifically notes that the series was shot 24fps to cater for the US market! Can open, worms everywhere...

Honestly, with a UK Blu-ray of a classic UK TV series, when in doubt, I say go for 25 fps, since we all know that it was originally broadcast at that speed in the UK.

Saying that, however, Gerry Anderson's series would seem to be special cases, possibly because they were virtually assured of international and US distribution.

I just know I want Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons on Blu-ray.

One of the Charles Bronson films from the 80s which I hope gets a Blu-ray upgrade is The Evil That Men Do. But would it get passed uncut by the BBFC today (I'm assuming Network still own the rights to the film in the UK)?

Apparently the cuts were waived, but a master for the US R-rated cut ended up getting released on DVD by Network.

After all these years I wonder why Network have never released the last of the 4 ITV Hammer films Vampire Circus. They released the other 3 ages ago and the US and European discs also came out ages ago

A new Blu-ray title has been added to Network's website, a British Film line title called Blonde Fist (1991). The release date is Monday 13th February, 2017.

I'll be in for the Randall & Hopkirk sets. 6 volumes st £10 each but you only get the slip to house them in if you order all 6 exclusively at their site.

Doesn't seem to make it clear with which volume you get the slip cover, I'd presume it's volume 6.

Would like to own these, however I've a feeling I'll pick up whichever comes with the slip and then splurge on the other volumes come their annual 40% off sale.

If this series can get the HD treatment I'm hopeful we'll get the Protectors and Department S on blu-ray sooner rather than later.

With the wording I'm assuming there'll be some sort of verification of buying all six volumes to qualify for the slip.
