What were the movie rankings? I can't see this at work and the offline version isn't working either.

Imagine the slant if Paramount would not have screwed us over. It would have been more like 75/25. However, what do you expect when nothing is released?

If you look at the top sellers I think it looks great.

Casino Royale in at 7 overall
Pirates 1 & 2 in at 9 & 10

BD showed older titles still selling great!!

My guess of 55 was slightly pessimistic

I can live with 56. It is not that bad really... will probably be the strongest result for HD DVD in this half of the year.

Those numbers aren't bad at all for a "down period" and the Paramount news both in play.

SI didn't change at all. To me that's the important number. When the SI doesn't budge with two arguably huge releases on HD-DVD with none on Blu-Ray, they have a major problem.

Can't believe that Heroes or Blades of Glory couldn't beat a movie that has been out 4 or 5 weeks for #1.

Was off by 2.. >.<

Not too disappointed I guess, considering they had Heroes and one of the Paramount format-saving titles "Blades of Glory" (LOL) and we had what? Immortal Beloved, The Lives of Others, Van Wilder and Perfect Stranger..? Not even one of those is a must-buy to me.

Default HD-DVD did not manage to win...

Not even with 5 new releases compared to zero and with two big day-and-date releases...

The YTD-numbers is just on the border between 66 and 67% (66.5%) for Blu-ray.

Yes, but that really sucks for HD DVD because this is the 4th?? or is it 5th week for 300 BD and they were still outsold!

Even without any release this passing week ,the older titles are selling like Hotcakes especially these titles and give BD an advantage over HD-DVD

BD did this before and did it again this week and for the third Consecutive week 300 on BD still outselling them so what does this mean BD fans outside the world are big enough and hard to resist ,,,Just wait for September october november and December the story will be complete different where we have a massive titles waiting on the door

This is huge for Blu-ray (speaking from marketer's point of view here).

Basically, HDDVD could not outsell it even with _FIVE_ new releases AND a new studio exclusive announcement even with Blu-ray having _no new releases at all_.

HDDVD just had the single largest chance it will ever see to show a spike (much like the one they had in April with far less handicaps) and it did not happen.

As a marketing person this tells me that the Viacom decision really isn't going to affect a thing and that Blu-ray is very solid in the market right now.

That SI graph is very telling.

That would be a legitimate gripe to get better replication support, NOT to drop the format entirely.

Who says they have to release catalogue titles if they are having issues with releases?

I agree.

My guess was a little more optimistic. I'm just glad HD-DUD didn't get more than 50%. We would have to hear about it for the rest of the year no matter how bad Blu-ray trounces HD-DVD week after week.
