I think the best it tells us, is that the internet in general is manipulated by microsoft's marketing fud.

Thanks,

I was referring to the e-product wars site which showed a mass increase of HD-DVD sales when Blu-Ray didn't even budge, HD-DVD then overtook BR for a little while thenn everything returned to normal. Thats what I meant by squiff. Sorry, British made up word for odd!

I think the word you're looking for is skew-whiff.

I can theorize why the numbers for the last few weeks match the Since Inception numbers...but they'd just be guesses. However your explanation does not match the facts.

What is coming out for each format this week? I just found out Knocked up was a universal title ... which made me mad ... for some reason I thought it was sony. Have to get that one on dvd. Does blu have anything to battle this title this week?

We have titles coming this week, look at the release schedule. Not sure about anyone else, but I would rather see Underworld in High Def than Knocked Up in high Def.
Just my two cents.

we have a better release week. underworld, black book, memoirs of a geisha, and tekkonkinkreet are very good titles. plus we have warner titles which we all know very easily outsell the hd dvd counterpart. we have a huge advantage every release until transformers. then after that week we continue to have huge weeks lined up till the day after christmas with rush hour 3. we will see alot of 75% or more nielson dominant weeks in the 4th quarter.

Are any of those day and date though? They have Knocked Up (yuck) and Next (which I don't think did amazingly at the box office, but I liked it). Day and date releases do tend to do better than catalog. I'm not buying Underworld, for instance, since I already have it on DVD, and I'm not interested in Memoirs, and haven't even heard of the other two you mention.

Perhaps you should expand your interest area a bit. Not knowing or heard of does not equate poor quality.

Here's a fact for you:

Black Book was last year's official Dutch Oscar entry! I would think that the director needs no introduction to the knowledgeable film buff whatsoever!

I wonder who is going to be #1 this week? 300, We Are Marshall, Smallville, or my pick for the week...Troy!

unfortunately, it CAN'T be Smallville, Warner simply did not ship enough copies for people to buy... hell, I STILL can't find a copy!

I was checking out http://www.eproductwars.com/dvd/ and there are 38 Blu-Ray movies in the top 1000, and only 18 HD DVD. Amazon does not tend to be a good indicator (lot of the early HD DVD adaptors buy there), but I think that this week is going to be a big win for Blu.

Article on HMM:

Quote:
On the high-definition disc charts, the long reign of Warner’s 300 atop both the Blu-ray Disc and the HD DVD charts came to an end, with a pair of hot new releases, both from Warner, storming to the top. On Blu-ray, it was the director’s cut of Troy; on the HD DVD chart, it was We Are Marshall.
Interesting disparity, possibly related to Troy being new to BD but not to HD DVD.

For a movie that really wasn't that good, its quite impressive to see it take the charts. You know Warner is happy keeping their lead.

It is quite intriguing. If we assume that the BD of We are Marshall outsold the HD DVD (which is probably the case) it implies the numbers are skewed back to BD this week...?
