Look at the top 10 discs. Blu has 2-10. Transformers is the only disc that sold enough to crack into the top 10. I can't wait for weeks where BD has the entire top 10 on lock.

That ad is interesting, especially since the pictured players are Sony units yet Disney has been working extensively with Panasonic on their discs and their tour.

I don't understand.....this mag knows that Paramount lied about their 190k units sold (100k units day one lol) on HD yet on page 10 they are quoting verbatim.....that being they sold 190k units for week one and 100k the first day. Don't they realize they are actually contradicting their other story how it was really 115k?

Wow. If you look at the Ratios for titles on page 12 of this issue, you can see the depth of the blu-ray title interest, the effect of the BOGO sale and new PS3 owners buying BOGO and non-bogo that week.

If Transformers was not there, Blu-ray would have an over 90 ratio for last week.

Actually, Paramount may have been quoting their total sales in the US including sales through Wal-mart and other retailers not polled in the Nielson data. Even so, I think that Blu-ray sales for the overall market were either 51:49 or greater in the total market so it does not matter anyway.

Home Media Magazine has a lead time for publication which means they will get the numbers in advance of when they start setting up the magazine for publication.

still if it was only 115,000 that still means the 135,000 reported by them for BD's 300 still outsold them if you look at it that way.

Yet why did they make a story that said and I quote: "Paramount says Transformers sold 190,000 units its first week in stores, but Home Media Magazine market research and studio estimates puts the actual number of units that sold through to consumers closer to 115,000."

Whether or not you are trying to guess where the numbers came from they plainly said their data contradicted Paramounts. How can you then run an article without stating "but according to our sources it was 115k". It doesn't makes sense because they already stated the numbers didn't match up yet they just put out the statement verbatim from Paramount.

Why are we sitting here arguing about such a small thing? The numbers show that the HD DVD market lacks depth.

We accepted Warner's number earlier on 300 right? Everyone knows that nobody but possibly the studio has access to numbers including Wal-mart and smaller chains and shops right?

Assuming the 51:49 ratio holds or even increases outside of the nielson ratings sphere, we won and that is all that matters.

Guys, I cannot stress enough how weak the HD DVD side is.

Looking at the chart I'm guessing that the TOP 10 Blu-ray titles for that week each sold more than the second place HD DVD title "Knocked Up".

Knocked Up had a ratio of 2.54 against Transformers compared with ratios ranging from 9.47 to 3.37 for the nine blu-ray titles in the top 10 sellers in the market.

Granted that more HD DVD owners would have bought other titles had Transformers not been there but looking at these numbers, subtracting the Transformers effect would have resulting in a crushing defeat for HD DVD.

I believe that if Paramount had not betrayed us and Transformers was released on Blu-ray as well and Disney had gone ahead with a BOGO sale, the Blu-ray ratio would have been in the high 80's if not into the 90's.
