And this 65:35 is indeed contributing to have BD earn another point in the SI

I'm disappointed, serioulsy. My expectations were too high.. But it's still a win and hopefully, Ratatouille will have a long residual effect.

So now, let's go for next week: BOGO sale + Spiderman and Ratatouille residual effect.

I don't think we will see much of an improvement for the following week. Die Hard doesn't seem to be selling well and neither does Hairspray. Hopefully next weeks number stay the same or get a little better with Shrek 3 out, but I don't think that will do much damage.

Selling 30% more is a slaughter in my book. If I was backing HD-DVD I would not be too excited, in fact after the firesale/give away I would be getting mighty nervous.

Until HD-DVD improves on a consistent basis, actually wins some weeks and catches up in other regions I would not be investing too much on that inferior tech.

People are saying 70K from Dave Vaughn who posted that Ratatouille sold around 10% less than SM-3 the previous week and only about half when SM-3 and Trilogy are combined.

22K cars? That doesn't seem nearly enough.

I"m not so sure that 70K baseline for Rat is correct. Can anyone confirm? I wish Disney would release numbers.

Actually, it looks like the Spiderman trilogy is actually throwing off the numbers to me. Since the trilogy counts as 1 instead of 3. If you count the trilogy as 3 movies, then the ratio is pretty close to 3:1.

Agree 100%. The story is written as if all the early adopters are purely self-interested and mercenary and care nothing for video and audio quality. The author should have read these forums a bit longer!

Did I hear right? Did BD get a point back in YTD?

Well for me these numbers are extremely dissapointing. Those of us who were so vocal about the other side not buying movies with the firesale are just plain wrong. 65-35 is where it's been all year. All these numbers show is that HD DUD isn't going anywhere. Wasn't it WickyWoo who said last week would really start to see the numbers move to 80-20 for Bd? If these numbers (YTD) stay where they are through the rest of the year we can forget about WB going Bd exclusive or Uni going nuetral. It simply won't happen.

Seriously, Math 101 is a good thing.

It's not 30% more, it's MUCH more than that.

They will have Shrek 3, but between Cars, Rat, SM3 residuals, the BOGO sale, and the $399 PS3 (Sony anounced having sold 100.000 this past week alone I think)... I think the green guy will return to his swamp

And on the horizon I can already see DH4 (tons of hype going on on TV atm), The Simpsons movie, Potc:AWE and Superbad

very bad for the blu-ray camp. no more predictions from me. I thought it would be higher than 75:25 easily. sales are just way to low across the board. There is no reason that ratatouille shouldn't have sold over 100k and cars 50k. with all the new players out there for both sides you would think the numbers sold would get alot higher every week. especially these busy shopping weeks.

That was last week

with a YTD at 65:35, this week's number doesn't do anything for or againstit.
But the SI ...

The Firesales (Walmart and BestBuy) -had- to have some kind of effect.
Anything higher than 70:30 was wishfull thinking imho. Also, let's not forget that next week is thanksgiving and that Xmas is close. Many people are delaying their buys until nexty week or closer to Xmas, specially for kid friendly movies.

sadly for the rat it didnt get the export to europe boost due to region encoding.
Transformers is a heavy import title in europe.

The PS3 owner is probably not the typical buyer of Ratatouille and Cars. I think that POTC 3 will do better for Disney. However, I think that Ratatouille will keep a good selling ratio over time. Die Hard 4 could aslo be a winner, we will see in 2 weeks!
