It's funny (well actually almost criminal really) that Nielsen/Videoscan is still including movies like "Meet The Robinsons" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" in the top ten Hi Def sales even though these were FREE give aways. DVD Empire can be trusted because they are basing this on actual sales and don't include any blu-biased freebies like nielsen/videoscan does.
Quote:

I have said this many times when the Blu-Boys are posting their 3:1, 4:1, 7:1 FUD-fest, so I should probably repeat it here.
Quote:
I've never seen so much red on this chart. There's even more red now then 2 hours ago. Looks to me like al those who received a Toshiba HD player under their Xmas tree logged onto Amazon today to see what HD's they could buy. While those receiving PS3's are at Gamestop shopping for PS3 games.
Quote:
I agree with everything that has been said. We are just now beginning to see the Avalanche that is HDD beginning its journey down the Mountain. Poor BR fanboys and girls,
Quote:
These numbers will no doubt reinforce the argument that the number for attach rates, not overall hardware sales, will ultimately determine which format will be most viable.
Quote:
Funny how you did not post the previous week's numbers, young Mark. You know the week where it was only 1.38 to 1 in favour of Blu-ray?
Could it be that you are now scared at the prospect of normal weeks without blockbusters of the calibre of Pirates 3 when HD DVD sales are starting to increase due to the huge sales of players recently? Kinda worrying really isn't it....
Quote:
****** days of FUD posts are numbered just like the remaining days that Blu-Ray manages to top HD DVD in software sales. From here on out it gets worse for Blu-Ray each and every day. We should expect him to post FUD fast and furious for the next few months, then falling off and then a long overdue silence.
Quote:
All the best films are on or coming to HDD - The few good titles from Fox, Sony, or Disney can be bought on SD.
Quote:
And I must say this... the blu boys should be trembling with fear because the Chinese got a hold of HD-DVD technology.

Hmm... what does this mean? Since HD-DVD has low production costs (something blu-ray does not and will not have), it means that HD-DVD players can be mass produced in large scales. Sometime in the next year we could see Walmart and Target having these players for like $80.

That should make the bluboys really wonder if their players are really going to be viable anymore. If you have something as complicated, bug prone and expensive as blu-ray you really have to start to question whether it is really viable.
Quote:
And ********, you're downright wrong. Sales are shooting up, and HD-DVD now outpace Bluray 2:1 or even 3:1.
I had the great misfortune to read the Amazon forum section.

Sorry to say this, but I have come to the conclusion a large perecentage HD-DVD owners are ignorant idiots/fanboys, even more unfortunately a large number are polluting this forum with under the radar doom and gloom postings.

You may believe I've been selective with the quotes above, but the majority were posted one after the other in a couple of threads.

After reading that lot I had to leave!

Last two.

Makes you want cry doesn't it, lol!

Pretty much EVERY claim is false!

Want some cheese with that WHINE? LOL Sorry, but I am going to trust dvd empire before I believe the blu-biased liars and number fudgers at Nielsen/Videoscan who continue to count "FREE with purchase" BR titles as sales and yet do not count the same for HD DVD give aways. Not to mention they refuse to include Walmart sales in their totals
Quote:
On a side note, the fact is the 50/50 percentages for HD DVD & BR sales are an average, but at one point during the week HD DVD sales were actually at 58% to BRs 48%. The days of Nielsen/Videoscams blu-biased false 3 to 1 claims are coming to an end.

Let's just see what happens in the new year guys. We all know that Blu has already won. CES, hopefully WB will decide to end this and just done what they should have in the first place and go blu exclusive.

Speak for yourself, because the reality is that Blu has NOT already won. Its still a competition between two formats, and while blu-ray has maintained its lead in media sales, it has not changed the dynamics during Q4.
Warner is not Blu-exclusive, and all the wishful thinking and positive spin we might put on insider teaser statements, doesn't make it so. Warner has been playing both sides and raking in big $ because of it. I do not know when, or even IF they will chose a side. If you have real info on that, please share it.
Blu is ahead in this competition, and while I'm happy about that, the BDA has utterly failed in knocking out HDDVD in Q4.
I agree, lets see what happens at CES.

When that comment came out in HMM, small is exactly what it means. Best Buy was by far the biggest seller of Hi Def Media that they wouldn't give the percentage that Best Buy sold because it was so high. I have yet to see a title that was on sale ONLY at Amazon break into the top ten weekly sales on the Nielsen charts. How many copies of the movies do you think it takes to bump somethig up that high? Just a few hundred it my guess. Everyone is taking these Amazon sales too seriously. But, it seems like the HD DVD promo group is trying its hardest to win this week. A sale at Amazon and the sale at Best Buy. I went to best buy yesterday. Funny. The HD DVD section looked like it hadn't been touched and was fully stocked. Didn't see any signs for the Buy 2 get 2 free sale either though.

You need to realise rankings are just that, at this time of year anything on sale will rank high as other, regular priced, purchases are on hold after Christmas.

The week before Chritmas you may have to shift 10000 titles to rank No.1, today it maybe 2500.

It's quite clear the HD-DVD camp, and it's supporters, only boast when facts and figures are not available, they make wild predictions, then come back down to earth when factual stats are released.

ATM we have no figures for Christmas, they can go around stating HD-DVD sold 1m standalones, Blu-ray 100k, no one can challenge them because they are simply wild predictions.

One of the big talking points for the red crowd is the cost of Blu-ray production, both players and software, why, because we don't have reliable figures, so it's a myth they can continue to peddle.

I see now they even dismiss Nielson figures, well unless they win a SINGLE week, at that point every previous week will be ignored, we'll have to suffer more 'HD-DVD's trending upwards' propoganda.

Well I do see the ranks of HD-DVD and Blu Ray seperately for Dec 16th.

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/...ideo/index.jsp

Look to the bottom of the page. I dont see a combined top 10 though.

Where do folks usually get these numbers from?

It was already stated 61-39 for the week, and if incorrect, Dave Vaughns credibility will be shot, as these figures are one of the things he can hang his hat on and prove he was correct.

True, wouldnt that be entertaining.

The figures are already out to the industry, but not released publicaly.

Vaughn has access to the numbers and has been correct every week.

I see no reason why they won't be correct this time.

But........

One little piece of positive thinking: remember the week Transformers came out? and how Blu still won?

Yes, there are factors that clearly indicate how it's going to sway, but until the numbers come out it is all just speculation, and since no one else has mentioned the Transformers week, I will. Sometimes things don't turn out as bad as you think.

DVD Empire's figures are internal to them only, not Nielsen.

I'd suggest that the most obvious trend is continued blu-ray dominance in the sales ratio during this high-volume sales period.
