Of course the HD-DVD fanboys are now starting to explain this trend by saying that HD-DVD player buyers rent their movies and Blu-ray player buyers buy their movies. So you can't win with those folk.
Funny, because all last year when HD DVD was ahead they kept saying 'well, if Blu-ray supporters would actually support their format of choice by purchasing rather than just running their mouths...etc., etc.' , you all know the rest. So, what happened?

Default 90% of the blockblusters are on Blu-ray

It will be hard to manipulate the following numbers.

lol, well that certainly won't convince any BR studios to go neutral.

Well, they won't be renting at Blockbuster anytime soon.

That didn't apply to the 250 stores that currently rent both formats or the online rentals. Do that many people still go to a local rental store like we used to last century? You won't get me to rent from a store.

If we let Toshiba get by with their story of having a 60/40 advantage on standalone player sales, and let Graffeo be right that people aren't buying the PS3 for BD playback (which I do), then either the attach rate for BD is very high or people are just buying BDs to buy them.

This graph shows the PS3 effect.
I've always made your exact point on the attach rate... they change the data to their advantage. Can't have it both ways.

BB has a 5:1 volume edge over Netflix.

From AVS

Netflix Total Revenue for the year 2006: $996.7 million
(source: http://www.videobusiness.com/article/CA6409885.html)

Blockbuster Total Revenue for the year 2006: $5.52 billion
(source: http://www.videobusiness.com/article/CA6419949.html)

Total Rental Market Revenue for the year 2006: $7.5 billions
(according to http://www.dvdinformation.com/News/press/CES010807.htm)

So we get:

13.4% for Netflix
73.6% for Blockbuster

It should surpass Norbit, though it will probably fall out of the top 10 when some of the other big movies hit later in the season and year...

Its kind of tiring reading your endless posts about how you wont walk into a blockbuster. NEWSFLASH, Blockbuster did ~6 BILLION in B&M business last year, they are a wrecking ball when it comes to the minds of J6P, who is their #1 customer. Thats nice that you dont go, but you represent 1% of the population, the rest love blockbuster.

If you factor in the Warner and Paramount titles which always sell more on Blu-ray than HD DVD, it will be a slaughtering. Thanks for the link.

You have to read the book to get the figures. Flip through it. Be patient.

Normally it goes up shortly after 12pm EST.

Whe it's up this will be the link.

http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/ques...2407/index.php

Although I do love this one (http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/ques...1707/index.php) that shows all the YTD and SI TOP 20 unit numbers. It's a very telling story to see that the Top 20 Blu-ray discs this year have all sold more than the #4 HD DVD disc.

Default Predictions...

I think it's time we started forcasting milestones.

What will be the first 3:1 week (75%:25%)?

What will be the first 4:1 week (80%:20%)?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the first 3:1 week will be the week ending 16 September 2007.

4:1 - well that's anybodies guess and depends mostly on release dates - but I'm going to say the week ending 30 December 2007.

Also, is Toshiba going to cry uncle before or after the holiday season - or are they going to hold out for a few more months? Predictions?
