On one of the other forums, the HD-DVD people say the statistics mean nothing because Blu-ray had the only NEW release, Ghost Rider. Then they say, just wait until 300 comes out, then the stats will turn around. Hmmm. Do they not understandt that 300 comes out on HD-DVD and Blu-ray? Are they hoping that no one is going to buy the Blu-ray? It will be too funny when the 300 Blu-ray sells more copies like The Departed. I will be curious to see what the excuses are then.

I dont know where HD-DUD are going,Really they are living in a complete illusion

At first they say PS3 is a game console wrong,i'm using PS3 for BD Movies,

second,we are dominating the market since PS3 get birth

Third Sony Blu-ray Player are dominating the market now Because of its cost around $500 and Samsung is following it.Means more BD owners of Movies.

What are they talking about,,,,Wake up Wake up

I know, it's like that for every dual format movie except for PE, Blu always sells more. You think they would see the trend. But I guess that's the life an HD DVD owner, praying tomorrow will be a better day...but it never is.

I hope the release of 300 sells like crazy on Bluray day one, because quite honestly, Warner is getting closer and closer to leveling the playing field...

This seems to be the first title since The Departed that Bluray is getting a day and date release with HD-DVD that also has a lossless audio option from Warner...

I would like Warner to continue the trend.

I know I'll be buying this kick ass movie day one.

My guess is HD DVD will pull closer to 50% this summer. Universal is dumping the mother load of HD DVD exclusive movies this summer and there is not much coming from the Blu-ray exclusive camp (I wonder if even 1 PS3 owner cares about 'The Lives of Others' coming in August). The neutral camps are releasing some good titles for both camps and we should see a slight advantage in Blu-ray sales. But all in all I think the Blu-ray camp is blowing it. This summer would have been a good time to release Cars or Spiderman 1 or some other killer movie to offset the Universal push. I am hopeful that they will make it up this fall.

I doubt it will get to 50/50. We have had plenty of dry spells before along with HD-DUD buying pushed... they haven't sustained anything. It will be a blip.

I doubt it. Universal unleashed a load of new titles today and looking at the amazon rankings shows none of them have even cracked the top 100 yet. The Big Lebowski is close and may get in but it looks like there is very little interest in these catalog titles compared to new releases ( something we've known for a while).

I suspect the sales numbers for this week will show about what they have for a while. If they don't show any significant improvement, this will be a huge blow for HD DVD. They've said all along BR sales are only higher because they had more releases. If they can't edge up this week, they'll have to find a new excuse or admit they just can't compete with the installed base of PS3s.

There is no way they will pull 50/50, the movies they are releasing are subpar for both PQ/AQ, and movie quality. They are crappy movies for the most part that shotty transfers. Besides, with the BB announcement and more news of BD exclusive support every day its only down hill from here. I dont care how many movies Universal releases.
I do wish that BD would get on it and start releasing more movies though. But they are putting out quality not quanity and that is the most important thing to me.

I just caught the latest released numbers, and have just one question - Is Ghost Rider selling *that* many copies, or is everything else not selling anything that week?

I was only referring to a short term gain anyway (like July - Sept). If the Fud rallies then it is possible that they achieve 40 to 45% gain. Heck, they went from 30% to 34% in less than a few weeks.

The Great Toshiba Firesale is having zero effect. My guess is that most of those new players were sold to repeat customers and those that did make the plunge have no disposable income left to buy movies. They will be renters.

HD DVD is a complete sham! I know I'm stealing JTK's thunder but just the thought of what this format stands for just pisses me off to know end.

Why can't we get the YTD and the SI numbers to nudge up a little bit?

I realize that it will take a little longer, but we should have a champagne party (of sorts) when SI is 75:25!!

Hopefully the weekly number trend will continue, and get to a 3:1 advantage.

Rup, we need the weekly and YTD numbers to get there first. But I do agree.

That would be my guess as well. IMO, people who have 50-100 or more HD DVDs found this deal as a way to add another player to put in some other room for their spouse, children, or for their self. With "so many" new HD DVD players being sold, why aren't their titles selling well?
