Aren't 2 of those repeats?

I was thinking about the SI thing. Does 59/41 mean that if (for example) 2.4 million discs sold since april 2006, 1,416,000 were BDs and 984,000 were hd dvds, or do they add each weeks % ratios and divide the sum by weeks counted, or what.

I think it's since April 2006, since that was the inception date of HD DVD. Not really its "inception," but since its release. A better way to term it would be "total movie sales," (can't say "total disc sales" since PS3 games count as BDs). If it were since inception of BD, the latter format to release to the public, then that fact would be denoted.

Numbers are up and BR led again 65/35. It seems that even having a huge release advantage, HD DVD was still outsold almost 2 to 1.

Default HD DVD mega-bust

Looks like last week's HD DVD mega-wave did nothing. Not one of the 14 HD DVD mega-wave titles made the top 10.

If there were to be any week this year where I thought HD DVD had a shot to break 50/50 or better, it would be this week based solely on the shear volume of HD DVD releases. Don't brag about having more players if you can't sell more movies.

In this issue they broke down the YTD sales indecies for the top 10 titles:

In format-specific sales, Casino Royale is tops, with The Departed on BD at 69.67 coming in at #2. #2 is PE on HD DVD at 44.56.

The Departed on BD has sold more than its HD DVD counterpart, yet it has only sold ~70% of Casino Royale, while the HD DVD version has sold 42.42% of CR.

So, the best-selling HD DVD title (PE) has not even sold half the number of units as the best-selling BD title, keep in mind that CR came out a little over a month earlier than PE.

Looking at aggregrate numbers, HD DVD is only represented in 4 of the top 10 spots, and none of those are exclusive! Since it's well known that with the exception of PE Blu-ray titles outsell their HD DVD counterparts, that last fact is pretty sad for HD DVD.

Also, nice to see Fox has a title in the top 10 for format-specific. It lets them see there is a demand for their product.

I love it! 2:1 sales in favour of Blu-ray due to continued sales of TOP movies released in the weeks and months before.

Of the Top 10 Format-Specific Year-to-Date titles, only 2 are on HD-DVD (PE & The Departed). The Departed for HD-DVD was at #5 while its BD counterpart is #2. Most of us are also aware of the many horror stories of people who have bought PE by mistake thinking it would play on their normal DVD player. Needless to say, the results are less than impressive.

Meanwhile in the Top 10 Aggregate By Title sellers (meaning just ranking the movies across both formats), every title is available on blu-ray while a whopping 6 are exclusive to blu-ray!. That's pretty embarrassing. Only 4 of the Top 10 are even on HD-DVD and not a single one is exclusive.

people in the BD camp were clearly showing off last week when they only released.. what, 2 movies?....compared to the 17 that came out on HD DVD...

basically...BD let all the new customers play catch-up without being overwhelmed...

this is smart marketing....you release all this news within a 2 week span and release only a few new movies...

..everyone is buying the movies that are already out and it's not just inflating new releases...but the SI sales as well...

and Batman Begins isn't even on that list...

LOL, there are no titles by Universal Studios in the Top 10 aggregate. Watch out for HD DVD Operation Mega-Fraud.

90 is a big number and would certainly spell the end. Cracking 80 is humiliating enough and more likely. I mean the HD-DVD ca,p will almost have to plan a "Mega-Buy Days" to counteract the huge BD releases later in the year.

Just wait until the Matrix Trilogy hits HD DVD exclusively. Oh wait, it did, and it didn't make a dent.

Is it me, or does anyone else just love that fact that week after week, the HD DVD zealots over at AVMS continue to spin how one day "something" (usually the next "latest and greatest" release or cheap players) is going to come along and change the "war" forever in their favor...yet the numbers continue to show preference for BD.
