2.)Even if Disney and Fox start releasing again, Univeral is going to release 400 more titles by year end to offset this.

3.)Warner Bros is going to release the Harry Potter series and 300 exclusve to HD DVD by the end of summer. Also, even though WB will soon announce Batman Begins and V for Vendetta for Blu-Ray, they are most likely going to release special editions of those two titles exclusively on HD DVD so that makes the BD versions irrelevent.

And some more fun...
4.)BD is a waste because AM and BW said that they were working on a new VC1 tool whereby they could get transparency to the master using 2mps avg bit-rate for HD DVD. This makes it better than Blu-Ray (but we still need 51G discs anyway).

5.)D@mn the evil BDA who banned the "WB spokesman" at AVSM (my note: did anyone see that "we miss you cj, thanks" in caps in the matrix review thread)

6.)We lost the sales ratio again this week, but it's only a matter of time. Oh yeah, they's sold 3M PS3's, but they still cannot bury us.

How did I do guys? I'm just feeling sarcastic this morning!!!
once again, denial is the first stage. eventually they will accept it. give the poor b@$t@rds time to grieve all the money they lost.

Top 10 HD

1. Planet Earth (HD DVD) - 100.0
2. Planet Earth (Blu-ray) - 95.07
3. Night at the Museum (Blu-ray) - 78.28
4. Deja Vu (Blu-ray) - 68.84
5. Dreamgirls (Blu-ray) - 67.59
6. Dreamgirls (HD DVD) - 44.17
7. Casino Royale (Blu-ray) - 33.32
8. Alpha Dog (HD DVD) - 28.91
9. Smokin' Aces (HD DVD) - 24.42
10. Digitial Video Essentials (HD DVD) - 23.78

Comments:

- Planet Earth is basically even.

- Despite BD also having Night and Deja Vu, and HD DVD having little, the BD version of Dreamgirls kicked the HD DVD version's arse.

- A little birdy has told me Microsoft has made test BD discs for Joe Kane, so perhaps the BD version of DVE is on the way.

the Smokin Aces on BD is a typo...

how does HD-DVD have the majority of the top 10 numbers?

edit: I figured out why there aren't more BD titles in the top 10...as BD should be dominating the top 10...but the titles everyone has been ordering are pre-orders as of late...which makes sense...

Right. This represents actual sales, which don't occur for pre-orders until they are booked on release day.

Alpha Dog was a new release, yet it only managed to barely crack the top 10.

I will point out one negative:

Fox was predicting a 3.5:1 advantage for BD by the end of March. Of course, Fox themselves is quite significantly to blame for this not occuring since they postponed a whole mess of decent titles.

They're published Friday morning (5/18) unless they're leaked slightly earlier, which happens occasionally.

Nielsen/VideoScan Numbers ending May 13th

http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/ques...2007/index.php

^^^I'm wondering if it would be more efficient for me to keep posting the weekly updated information in this thread? What do you all think?

I edited my initial post with the updated information as well. Perhaps I we can rename the thread to "Weekly Nielsen/VideoScan Numbers" and just continually update the thread...

Anyhow, yup, it is 62% to 32%. Wait until Pirates on the 22nd...it will be a slaughter!

So according to these numbers, neither format is going to win or lose the so called "war" anytime soon. At the very least one will remain a niche format for a long time.

You can't predict from these numbers when important announcements might be made that move adoption for a format on much quicker. It's also not representative of the greater number of future blockbuster movies Blu-ray has coming its way.

I don't know about that...

the retailers will have to make a decision soon as their shelf space is being comprimised with both these formats...

if one format is getting 70% of the sales, how can a retailer afford to devote shelf space to something getting 30%? by standing behind one format, they could conceivably make up that 30% fairly quickly

Can't see how you believe that. Retailers will make that decision for them very quickly if these trends keep up. They will tire of the battle and once they have enough data, let's say a full year's worth, they will grant real estate in their stores, and inventory for e-tailers, to the clear winner. 2:1 is not a healthy ratio for a format war... that is 1 side getting their nutbag crushed in.

Actually I tend to think that HD DVD could stick around for a long time unless the numbers reach the likes of 90:10.

Maybe not in all stores but definitely in some stores, like Amazon and Fry's.

It might stick around for vendors will to pick up the gravy catering to the niche but teh socalled "war" would effectively be over. Saying that the product might still exist is a far cry from saying the war is still up for grabs. You are mixing concepts here.

But surely someone from Microsoft can take twisted view of this?:

Yeah, just like I can take a photograph of a F1 race car just as it passes a Ford Focus and claim the race was tied at that point too.

WE - Just in case there was any doubt it should be called MS-DVD.
