Not to mention that but hd backers are trying to pull one of their "buy days" or whatever this week also.
Buy days do not make a difference at all. You have to have a buy day (or week) backed by a studio (BOGO sale) to get enough people to buy to make a difference in the rankings. With all the buy days that have happened, you would think people would know that it is useless for a single forum to have a buy day.

somehow I doubt it sold more than spiderman 3 because my I had a meeting with my Disney rep yesterday and she explained how most of her accounts complained about not being happy with the sales of the Rat. I had a nice conversation with her how maybe it was the idea of a Rat cooking your food that turned people off......I have not seen the movie so she had to explain it to me.

I know Amazon isn't the end all be all, but a week before release this combo is ranked #518 on Amazon.

Do people REALLY think this is going to matter?

I'm not

But I also know how much TOS sold on DVD at $150/set SRP to a high install base, and a lot of other factors

Frankly I believe the actual sales will be sub-1500, and under 1000 will not shock me whatsoever

I'd be surprised with that as it's the only Blu movie I've had to go to multiple stores to get due to it being sold out.

i have rat, but have not yet watched it. compared to other pixar films it does not seem as colorful and light. i think they kind of over shot their audience by about 7-10 years.

Hmm, it seemed to be sold out in many more locations than Spidey 3, and maintained a higher number on Amazon for a much longer time. We shall see obviously, but I think it did really well.

If you haven't watched it yet, how can you make a conclusion? And what was their audience target?

Oh I think it did good on Blu, my comments were about DVD. She explained that it didn't sell as well as Cars did last year on DVD.

Honestly I thought it had to do with that funky name......I told her to look out for Wall-E.......that's not exactly a eye poping title.

oh and I say it's going to be 80:20 since this is about guessing the weekly numbers and not about my stuido meetings

im judging it by its cover. it just doesn't seem as fun as lets say toy story or finding nemo. i mean what sounds like a cooler movie, a bunch of toys chilling, some colorful fish and a high sea turtle, or a rat cooking food. ratatouille just doesn't seem as light. and i think they were looking for an avg. audience of about 4-12 years old and ive heard from other people that it is long for a kids movie and that it is a little too complex for most kids. it seems more like an teen/adult movie, but the kiddy animation holds them back too.

It was my 3 & 1/2-year-old's first trip to the theatre, and she enjoyed it immensely.

Funny enough the my Disney rep said specifically that it might have been too mature in a lot of the jokes. There are always jokes that only adults will get in these Pixar movies however the way she described it made it seem it was probably the most mature Pixar film yet. Now it did do over 200 mill, you don't do that much without kids liking the flick. I'm just not sure how that translated into sales because one thing I'm 100% is this was the best renting Pixar movie I've ever seen (in the Blockbuster stores I run). Usually if it's a big seller the rental activity is fairly low.

And yet, Ratatouille is the best ranked Pixar film on the IMDB by far.

I felt Rat was simply not talking down to its audience

They produced a story that could be appriciated by everyone. It asked the kids to step up a little, which is never a bad thing given how stupid most kids movies are these days

Kid movies today are firmly lodged in the 4-11 bracket. Where's stuff like Goonies that has kid appeal without talking down to them? Rat was a breath of fresh air for me

Animated films does not necessarily mean child films.

There's no reason why an adult would not enjoy (and therefore buy) an animated film with an adult theme.
