At least Blu was in the Top 3 of both lists.

65 is really not very good all things considered. There has been a surge in HD DVD buying - maybe those $99 actually paid off

Actually I think that Ratatouille sold less than my expectations... so that is a big factor.

Highly possible, and probably most likely considering the selection at wally world sucks.

I definitely wouldn't want to be on the other side of that ratio. Not after my side had pulled off the biggest stunt sale of the year. Nope.

Haha. So after the Toshiba firesale, we still win 65:35. How pathetic HD-DVD is. They just need to die already. Wait until the numbers from the BOGO come in. Or after the Die Hard Trilogy. Or Pirates 3. Poor HD-DUD.

Well, the way it looked like Ratatouille was selling so well and Shrek looked like it was tanking, I wouldn't expect Shrek to sell half of what Ratatouille sold.

the price point, could of been, should of been...the cause of these closer numbers...

the true test will be the coming months and weeks.

I would love to see some numbers of...

Blu buyers who are only blu buyers

and Blu buyers that just went purple...

I am still True Blu!

How About You?

Go Blu!

I am surprised that Cars sold so less. Maybe because its already on SDDVD and people own it already.

It's the residual effect of transformers for the past few weeks that's really hurting the ratio...

Paying off for a week or two is great for them, but we need to see how things pan out during Q4, how the increasing PS3 sales impact things, any future Blu-ray player price cuts etc.

Far too early to say.

when i compare the top 5 of both formats i get this

blu-ray
1. Ratatuoille - 70k
2. Spiderman 3 - 24k
3. Cars - 22k
4. Spiderman Trilogy - 11k
5. Pixar Shorts - 8k

Total: 135k

HD DVD

1. Trasnformers -18k
2. Chuck and Larry - 14k
3. Knocked Up - 6k
4. Evan Almighty - 4k
5. Planet Earth - 3k

Total: 45k

It is a perfect 3:1 ratio of blu-ray over hd dvd for the top 5 titles. this means that hd dvd must have had a fantastic week with older catalog titles.

It isn't bad but we all expected better. Still it's a nice number in retrospect.

read the article on the format war with the fans. the part that pissed me off was when the person said we are so into this is becasue we have money invested in it. if that was true i would have a hd dvd player and just get the exclusives to hd dvd and be done with it because moneys not an object when it comes to this. what is comes down to for me is not wanting blu-ray to fail and get good but not as good titles. i know its been said many times on this site, hd dvd is a very good step up from dvd, but not close to blu-ray. i like to refer to it as dvd 1.5

Smile Not great for us, but acceptable.

I'm disappointed with the numbers, but I guess 90k cheap players with giveaway free titles counting as sales are quite a bit to overcome.

Disney's titles really deserve more support and I'm surprised that Blu-ray buyers are not picking them up.

All in all, this is not a bad week.

I think though that the Paramount buyout and the Toshiba firesale have killed some of Blu-ray's momentum.
