The fact that LG and Samsung can make a dual player, same drive, indicates that HD DVD is not that different from BD. What aspect to you consider to be 'so different'?
there is a cost to everything, people can make all in one printers and Combo DVD-VHS players. Obviously in many respects they are similar (blue laser, same size disks.....) but in other ways they are different and that adds complexity and cost to the manufacturing. In the end if people have not wasted their money on HD DVD disks and all the content can be found on BD why would anyone waste their money on a Combo HD DVD/BD player?

If the week was really 66 - 34 then YTD and SI won't change just yet. Since the difference is too small with the previous week. We'd need something close to 70 - 30 next week to see a change in YTD

I wouldn't say NA is most important, as Europe and Asia matter just as much. If NA was 90% Blu and Europe was only 2:1, then Europe would be where the big issue is. NA is only more essential to winning the war right now, because it is closer(2:1). But as an economy, I wouldn't say one is more important than the other. As far as the high-def war, NA is the one that is the most concern for sure though.

I think we are far from my original assertion, which is that HD DVD could survive as a niche in the US market.

The weird thing is that it is usually the high end stuff that is the niche, not the second best technology...

With any luck it will crash and burn. I think that there is a very good chance of this happening also.

Numbers are up. Just like Marzetta predicted - no shift in YTD or SI. Weekly sales:

66-34 Blu.

NXTbook is now up. The official #'s are 66/34 blu as of 11/18, YTD 65/35 blu, and SI 61/39 blu.
The dominance continues.

WOW, 300 on BD was the top seller!

No sign of Spider-Man untilthe BD/HD DVDs of each title are combined, and no sign of Ratatouille.

EDIT. MY BAD!! Those are YTD. Thanks for clarifying!

Those numbers top 10 sellers are WRONG! There is no WAY that is accurate. Sorry... the numbers are YTD sales of individual titles.(pg 10).

Interestingly, they did not break down the week's biggest sellers. Instead, they provided the highest sales for YTD!

Here you go:

7 of the top ten YTD are blu-ray, and the aggregate chart only has one hd dvd exclusive title.

Probably due to a very short work 2.5 day work week (most employers let their employees out by Wednesday noon for the Thanksgiving holiday).

We probably will get "normal" numbers this week.

check out the "anti-HDDVD ads" story on page 10, which talks about a blu-ray add where a dude uses a HD-DVD player as a coaster for his drink!!! f'ing hilarious!! but why is home media being HD-DVD's bodyguard??

The format war helps their publication and website hits, and hd dvd needs help to stay afloat.
