Probably not. But, it's still a strong title.

I have to believe HD DVD wants to get a weekly win, and that's their best chance.

I would have said 62-38 personally, so I'd take those numbers.

I personally didn't buy anything last week, saving up for this week.

Big weeks for HD-DVD push Blu-ray 5-6 points below the yearly average, big weeks for Blu-ray push the format 10+ points ahead of the yearly average.

I have no fear of Bourne, I pretty much think that week 2 Pirates will cover Bourne.

Strong title for sure, but High School Musical, which goes under the radar amongst this group, will be a big hit with kids, while Lost will be a great present.

Of course as we get right upto Christmas, I expect a jump in Blu-ray sales as presents.

Transformers week everyone bought that title, Bourne weeks sales will be split between that and Potter.

So, is this an indication that those A2s are having some affect?
No, it's simply every time there's a bump in new owners, these titles pop up again.

You have to remember that it's not uncommon for a decent new release to sell under 10,000 copies, and I'm doubting DH4 did much more than that last week.

And yes, I;d put money on 25% of those buys being people who don't read the label

Why do you say that? Do you really think they're going to go to CES and say, "Yay, we won 1 out of 52 weeks last year."

Dave Vaughn over on AVS. He has access to these numbers and has been dead on for the last month.

Still pretty good for Blu, considering all we didn't have much to offer for new releases. I know I bought no new release this week (bought all older titles and pre-orders).

I wish he would stop releasing the numbers early. It takes all the fun out of my Fridays. Now what am I going to do? I guess I am going to have to actually do some work instead of waiting for the numbers.

58:42, pretty good considering we had nothing really decent that week and that had a few so-so day-and-date titles, not bad at all.

Default Number rounding

Last week the official numbers were 72.6 to 27.4.

Why did HMM round the HD-DVD number upward to 28? Last weeks official number should have been 73:27. Anybody know what the deal is?

Apparently they always round towards 50.

That way 99.8 rounds to 99, not 100 (and .4 round to 1 and not 0).

This wasn't really a 'big' HD DVD week (No blockbusters).

There's been 6 other weeks this year when Blu Ray has been below 60, so it's not a big deal in any case. Blip not a trend at this point.

Yeah, it's pretty much in line with the classic 60-40.
I still wonder how PE sold that much though, as I do not see people buying a $98 player investing $80+ into a set, and we are past Black Friday and its discounts... In any case, pretty sad for HD DVD again, which had 4 new mainstream releases vs virtually nothing on Blu Ray (1 anime -albeit excellent-, and 1 Lindsay Lohan movie /barf), and I won't mention the 10 HD DVD discs thingy (5 counted in the sale) at Amazon.
Ah well, next week we'll be back on "destroy" mode, no worries.

I heard that with the Amazon deals, there was an option to get a discount on PE HD DVD - it was not free but a decent discount.

I never confirmed any numbers ... but that is what I heard...

A very disappointing number(58-42). While Blu-ray really only had residuals to count on, one would expect the sudden upswing in PS3 sales to start showing its effect. It is dangerous to speculate without volume info though. This must have been a very low volume week, which lessens the numbers a little. Did Die Hard fall off a cliff? It will be interesting to see if we get any more detailed sales totals before the end of the year.

Why do people keep saying that? Did you know about the PE surge? It came out of the blue AFAIK. Not sure if it was the Oprah effect or some special offer that I hadn't spotted. Either way, most people were expecting a comfortable Blu-ray win (which it was, as it turned out ).

So Ookie.., care to reveal what you saw than few others did?

Incidentally, the only chance I see for HD DVD to get close is BU week. Who knows what offers are in the works for that one.
