Agreed, and I think that's been covered earlier in this thread. Nobody is glossing over it, it's a given in this discussion.

Just my thoughts...

I take into account that overall this week is considered a low week. Some of the logic you guys suggest is that since blu had a crappy list of releases for this week that the closer numbers were expected?

I kinda think that this was a week that gave neither side an advantage or the most level playing field. The concern for me is that when you take out a major title release, the gap is only 58:42 or 6:4 which isn't enough to sway warner to blu exclusive. We can't always rely on a major title to move it into say a 70:30 win. To me, I think we have to put up 70:30 ratios every week to show that blu is the format. Not until a side is running up the score will it determine a win.

Exclamation Math 101: Combined % for the past 2 weeks of HDM movie sales= 70 Blu-Ray vs 30 HD DUD

I think Mathematics is not one of your strong suits now is it?

Note: Numbers below are just to illustrate a point and are not actual numbers... percentages however are correct.

Black Friday week
Total HDM movies sold = 1 000 000
72.6% on Blu-Ray ---> = 726 000 Blu-Ray movies sold
23.4% on HD DUD ---> = 234 000 HD DUD movies sold

The week after Black Friday (movie volume down 77.9% from previous week)
Total HDM movies sold = 221 000
58% on Blu-Ray -----> = 128 180 Blu-Ray movies sold
42% on HD DUD -----> = 92 820 HD DUD movies sold

Average out the 2 weeks and you get the following percentages:

70% Blu-Ray
30% HD DUD

Individual weekly percentages count for something, but they are INSIGNIFICANT vs. TOTAL ACTUAL NUMBERS OF MOVIE SALES.

THE most important number BY FAR is the YTD number.

Of course, the fact that HD DUD can't win a single week is also very impressive for Blu-Ray

Now if you could please go to the corner ...

and leave this thread alone with all the unwarranted, undeserved and unwelcome negativity, that would be great.

Dude, you are seriously living in a red ant dream world. When HD-DVD fades from significance, where will you go in your attempts to annoy people. And by the way, you are, at most, only a very small annoyance.

That reads like HD DVD won the week.

Now the red camp strikes back by not losing as badly? I wonder if any sports team player would try to push that?

I totally understand your expanation and where your coming from but I do think that as a dis-service to blu, Warner will not so much be focusing on the years numbers as will they be looking at the Q4.

I honestly think that Warner is looking for some sign of life from the $199 players to keep from going blu exclusive.

Looks kinda like a college basketball score... Ask any coach if they'd rather lose 58-42 or 73-27. Every one will say "a loss is a loss" but deep in their hearts they would likely actually prefer 73-27 because it is so lopsided they get to rest their starters hehe. But 58-42 is still a blowout.

Same difference: They will be looking at COMBINED movie sales numbers for Q4!
The small volume week will be INSIGNIFICANT vs. the TOTAL COMBINED Q4 movie sales numbers(which is what Warner will be looking at).

Alright greekjgg, I'm sure people have mentioned this already but respond to these facts:

FACT: Blu-ray sold 38% more discs than HD DVD last week.
FACT: Blu-ray did this despite HD DVD having two exclusive day-and-date releases and two exclusive catalogue releases.
FACT: Other than the one shared catalogue release, Blu-ray did this based soley on residual sales of already released titles.

It was not in fact a relatively equal week, I would say next week with Harry Potter, and Bourne vs. High School Musical 2, is the most even week I've seen lately.

The numbers posted for this past week should be a killing as well. I can't wait to see them, it would be nice to see them Friday, but I'm sure that David Vaughn will "leak" them out once again.

That will be interesting to see sj001, will he leak them if they are good for Blu? And what's good for Blu this week?

I could see him trying to spin "Blu *only* managed a 74-26 win this week despite all those titles!"

Exactly... I think it will be really good news (like 80-20) if he doesn't leak them. I can't believe that dude is still obsessed with BD replication costs, and recycling prices... he will just never give up a lost cause.

I agree,

This next week should be very interesting..I really hope Harry P. really outsells HD well.

We have enough HD DUD supporters spinning the same thing already. Blu-Ray won this week (again), for the 49th week in a row. We have been on a massive winning streak for all of 2007 and we will continue to win throughout the end of the year and well into 2008 and beyond.

It's encouraging and boosting to know we can still win a week when the other side has a freakish sales gain like Planet Earth. We are still ahead, and we are doing well! Congratulations, everybody. The rest of the year and beyond will keep Blu-Ray in the lead!

I can't wait to see the results of next week's numbers!

This is the bottom line....weekly sales reports of unequal release weeks mean nothing to a hugh company like Warner. All that matters is the SI and 4Q numbers. Blu is killing them and will continue too...

There is no need to worry about a 58/42 WINNING week. The sales volume was very low and we still won with no problems...

Total numbers and not just 1 weeks numbers is what is going to change things
