This weeks numbers were a creaming, but I guess next weeks will be the decider! If Harry Potter sells more on Blu-Ray (which it will do, surely) that should be it really.

Oh I forgot, all those HD-DVD players under the Christmas tree might give them a HUGE boost after Christmas

Could be some of that, but it's likely < 10% [perhaps the highest for HDM due to the Oprah effect --- some people think a HD DVD on their DVD to HDTV gives them highdef] , which would still make the remaining 90% a large figure.

That web site completely ignores the fact that PE was released on Blu as well. They only promote HD-DVD, and there is a little link on the page to the SD DVD version of PE.
This is disgusting, but not surprising ... what else would you expect from HD DVD camp after all ...

Newsflash, it IS moving the DVD version more but it is also greatly boosting the HDM versions. It is boosting the HD-DVD version more for 2 reasons:

1) They are more infatuated with that title than the blu side seems to be;
2) The HD-DVD side has been way more aggressive at using the Oprah name to market their version. I posted a direct link and there are many others. like I said, I've never seen a blu-ray PE add pimping the Oprah angle.

People are asking why it has pushed the Hd-DVD PE so much and I'm just giving reasons. They were smart to use the Oprah hammer.

We have to admit one thing, the blu side (including Sony w/ the PS3) market like damn pussies. They do not play hardball. You would be shcoked at how many people I talk to who are shocked when I tell them that the PS3 plays blu-rays... shocked! Just have a 15-second commercial that says "Hey, morons... it plays blu-ray hi-def movies!" Seriosuly that's it... Dennis Leary with attitude nodding to a PS3 and telling the idiots of America that it does in fact play HD movies on blu. The commercials they have are too focused only on games and too esoteric. Just get to the God damn point.

Default The Pirates Have Done It Again...

According to hidefdigest.com:
Propelled by strong sales of 'Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End,' Blu-ray software sales topped HD DVD by more than a 3:1 margin for the week ending December 9, 2007. Let the Celebration Continue...

either that, or there's a long line at walmart for people with hd-a2 players and their $99 gift receipt.

if you really think about it though, the hd dvd players under the Christmas tree will boost sales, but the tons of ps3s under Christmas trees will kill whatever they will do.

That's a very good point. The logo on Oprah's website is the HD DVD one. That sort of advertising is valuable.

So, it is Oprah.

That's assuming those people who get a PS3 actually buy Blu-ray movies.

We know that they do. Blu-ray began outselling HD DVD soon after the release of the PS3, and has retained that lead ever since.

Actually one good thing about YTD and SI not moving means its probably close and even if HDDVD has a really good week it probably won't go down (it most likely would have if it had increased this week) so HDDVD supporters can't claim see we are moving the YTD and SI numbers closer to 50/50.

My CC doesn't have the best placing for HP its by the registers which are blocked by things as you come into the store it took me a while to even find it I almost had to ask, it had all 3 versions, I went yesterday so I don't know how much they had but more space was allocated to BD. Bourne was very easy to see as you entered the store they had tons of space available for HDDVD but a lot were left it there were more available and still there than TF.

Of course we know that some do, but not all people with the PS3 do buy movies. If that were the case, you'd have more titles selling upwards of 500,000 units. But that isn't the case yet.

Anyway to get that figure?

We know that enough do to make Blu-ray the winner week in and week out.

How the heck did that big HD DVD case get on that "Oprah's favorite things" when everything is mentioning the DVD (that Oprah was referencing, not the HD DVD, or Blu Ray) version.

That is borderline deceiving O.o (HD DVD = DVD).

The logo on Oprah's website can cause people to think that the red case will play on their DVD player. That oprah page did not say that you need a hd dvd player to play this disk. This could be interesting.

Similarly though, some of the Oprah fans who picked the blue case and didn't look, could also be picking the wrong one. But this later number is likely less than the red one --- because that logo for PE on DVD on Oprah's website is a HD DVD, not the regular DVD.

Interesting.

It seems like the red ants always finds a way to make any good blu ray news bad. Now they're saying, "Oh but look how many ps3's are out there and yet the blu ray sales compared to the number of ps3 units is pathetic!" Granted, there were some HD DVD fans who admitted defeat for the week, but some just really won't give up.

Some? How monsterous do you think the Blu-ray standalone attach rates are?

By logic, some of the people getting a PS3 will buy Blu-ray, but we of course don't know if they are more or less likely than current owners. But, it's reasonable to expect it to be less.

But, same goes for $98 players under the tree.
