well lets not forget its from the same people who brought you DIVX and we all know how that ended up.

Is it just me or does CC promote HD DVD way too much?
Toshiba gave some kind of ludicrous concessions to CC to start carrying Toshiba products. I haven't seen much in the way of HD pimpage beyond what is normally paid for though.

Well, there's going to be an interesting top 10 this week:

300 (Blu-ray): 100
300 (HD DVD): 30-60
Next best: < 15
...

And the aggragate is going to have nine titles under 10.0!

I don't see anything anywhere that actually says how many BD vs HD.
It is all speculation from what I see.
What I worry about is that the stores that sold out of the BD versions did so because they simply did not have enough thinking it would either not sell as well or sell worse than HD-DVD. That is bad cause it severely limits the sales of the BD version, but I can not find any hard numbers yet.
We just have to wait till Friday. I am tired of seeing people saying

or other similar things without any proof. It is just misleading. What if HD-DVD actually does sell better than BD because of lack of stock? The numbers will show that and everyone will be really upset after getting their hopes up.
I say lets just wait and see and stop making wild predictions like they are true.

Part of the fun is speculating. You can choose to read the thread only on Friday afternoons if you want to only read posts about the facts.

The most logical prediction would be to choose the average recent split for sales (say 70/30). Assuming that HD DVD closed the gap significantly would mean speculating that a major shift in normal buying patterns occured. That would be wild prediction.

The only real X factor here is the reported understocking of Blu

I frankly think it'll be closer to 60/40. This is an HD porn title that HD DVDers will be highly motivated to own.

Considering last week was a 60/30 week with no big releases from blu, I am going to guess it will be a 70/20, say 72 to 28.

The reports are sell-outs of the Blu-ray, not "understocking".

I see no reason to believe the stores didn't order their normal split in sales between the formats. That was the problem. The actual demand significantly exceeded the normal split.

There have been several reports of major chain locations getting in 25-40 HD and about 10-15 Blu. That is BEFORE they went on the shelves

I hope you're right, I'm just trying to analyze the data

I hadn't seen those. It would be downright silly to throw away sales, wouldn't it? Sounds like fanbois have way too much control over ordering in some locations.

I think it's safe to think that the split will be around the nominal 70/30. It certainly won't be a major turn-around for HD DVD. The HD DVD PRG would be all over that if it was true. They undoubtedly already know the split.

It will be higher than that, the HD DVD selling even 50,000 is pretty unlikely, so I expect 80:20 for 300 this week.

I think it has to do more with persuasive sellsheets and inexperienced buyers at those locations.

300 is HD porn, I'll be shocked if they don't at least scrape 100K to be honest.

I'll be happy to take the better numbers tho

Regardless of how well it sells on either format, which format will it have more legs on? Historically, titles seem to sell better on the long term on the BD side.

I'm interested to see how this one splits. This is a title a lot of console owners would pick up. There are a lot of Blu-ray players out there compared to 360 add-ons. Warner also heavily promoted the extras on the HD-DVD as a selling point.

If 300 sells a lot better on BD then the "added value" features should not be viewed as a significant selling point.

I expect this to be a close split with BD coming ahead marginally.

Spot on. Retailers are going to have to realize that the "normal split" is evolving. To get their orders right, they are going to have to "lead the duck" a bit.
