Casino Royale? Now why did that suddenly pop up? It sold more than SM3. Was it included in one of the bundles, or is this the effect of new PS3 owners? (I see that in every thread on this board a new owner asks for recommendations, Casino Royale is mentioned. )

Gotta be new PS3 buyers... that's probably among the first movies any BD owner buys, especially in the demographic that have the PS3s.

was CR in some kind of special or is that strictly from new owners?

you gotta wonder what hd dvd is going to put their hopes in in the new year now that no more bournes are coming out, transformers 2 is 2 years away, and shrek 4 is probably going to suck and take at least 16 months before it comes out. iron man is all that looks good out of there exclusive studios and that won't come out for at least another 6 months on hd dvd.

...of course, Iron Man COULD be a flop, we won't know until it comes out.

Casino was included in the BOGO sale at best buy last week and it was one of the better titles in the selection. Same with 300

"Beowulf" comes out in February... I expect that to appeal to the XBox 360 owners...

I used 'Hollywood' not because I mean Hollywood, but because everyone would know exactly what I meant.

I was just telling my girlfriend the other night that I don't know how I'd be able to afford movies from the other studios if the war ended because I'm buying so many as it is! Don't sweat it. Rent and buy the movies that are available - ENJOY THEM! Because they're awesome and nothing beats the quality. But stay blu - nothing but good things will come from it and things aren't going to happen or change overnight.

I really can't speak for anyone else, but I didn't get into Blu-ray to win a format war. I got into it because I love movies and movies on Blu are totally blowing me away!
I am a die hard movie addict. Or at least, I always have been.

Now I'm stuck in a spot where half the movies I want are excellent quality, and the other half are crap.

Up until the middle of this year it appeared that this situation was resolving itself.

Then Paramount sold itself for 150 million.

Who did this benefit? The consumer? They don't give a damn about us. Toshiba? Not at all, Toshiba is worse off than they would have been, as now they've spent the desperation money + 150 million. Paramount? Even Paramount is questionable. They gained 150 million short term but they set back the entire growth curve of HDM. This will have cost them WAY more than 150 million in the long run.

Now it looks like Warner is trying to do the same damn thing. Even inaction at this point is holding back the growth curve.

If Warner doesn't decide by the end of January, then they aren't going to shortly thereafter, it'll probably be another 6 months at best.

For some reason these companies refuse to step up to the plate and do what's good for themselves in the long term.

I'll still buy Blu-Rays. I will stop buying half-assed PQ/AQ Blu-Rays. I'll definitely stop buying Warner Blu-Rays, as if they refuse to help themselves long term, I refuse to help them short term.

Right now I'd be happier if they all collectively decided to go HD-DVD then I am with this stupid, idiotic, anti-consumer war.

there is no way that beowulf is going to sell more than 50k copies on hd dvd. thats only a semi-big release. def. not a blockbuster release. same with american gangster, but i do expect that one to do better than beowulf.

I totally agree with you. It was mentioned above about Warner and taking a bribe. We all know that they already turned down one bribe. Warner has also come out and said that they know if they stay neutral or go Red, it will prolong the war and they don't want this.

Honestly, I think the decision has already been made, so the official public annoucement will be made in the first quarter of 2008.

I agree. I think as long as there are no surpises in January and February, WB will announce something around the March/April timeframe.
