So Blade Runner and Planet Earth sold better on Red, but Harry Potter, Ocean's 13, and the Departed sold better on Blu.

HP5 managed to sell better on Blu despite being able to get both it and the Bourne Ultimatum together in the BB HD DVD BOGO? That's pretty sad.

What's up with the Blade Runner numbers? I heard it was pretty hard to find on Blu, but I didn't think it was enough for Red to take the lead.

Btw, David Vaughn posted on HDD that Blade Runner sold about 50/50 overall between the two versions, so that means the Ultimate Edition sold substantially more on Blu, if it was able to reverse a Red lead on the Collector's Edition, yet still not make the top 20.

I am just amazed that Bourne, in it's second week out, beat The Simpsons in it's first week out, I thought for sure that the PS3 crowd would buy this.

True. And I applaud the Moderation and the Expertise provided by blu-ray.com so far. And to you personally, of course...

My only wish that you will not give up...
Perhaps some of them can, but a large portion of them are usually here under the guise of a Blu-ray supporter, or a person "looking to jump to Blu". But despite strong reasoning and FACTS, they still will not accept it. This goes hand in hand with how the Red camp is.

DV also said:
It took well over an hour. I tried to fit it in the whole poem, but couldn't do it and had to improvise at the end. This was a simply huge week for sales and the catalog titles out of the Top 20 moved very good numbers when taken as a whole. It really shows that the catalog releases on the BD side are much better than on HD DVD when taken as a whole.

Another interesting tidbit...although 300 on HD DVD wasn't in the top 20, it actually sold very well on HD DVD as well.

It just proves once again that animation doesn't sell as well on these HD formats as a live action new release. Ratatouille and Shrek the 3rd were previous examples...

Bourne was included in a BOGO with HP5, Transformers, and other big titles for HD DVD at Best Buy. I don't' think the Simpsons sold poorly for it's first, moreso that the BU sold extraordinarily well it's second week.

Maybe I should highlight that BOGO thing again?
You know, the one that Bourne was a part of but the Simpsons was not?

Well maybe it would have sold more on Blu, if most of us could have actually FOUND it!

As with everything else that is available on both formats, Blu will surpass Red in a short amount of time. Even Planet Earth is starting to catch up to about 50:50, especially now that they fixed the Oprah link to point to the DVD version instead of the HD-DVD version. DOH!

I understand Bourne was in a BOGO. But it is a fact that animation just doesn't sell as well as live action films on HD. Anyone blaming Bourne beating the Simpsons due to a BOGO is only looking at half the story.

You have Bourne residuals PLUS the BOGO...and I'd be willing to bet that the Simpsons didn't move anywhere close to 100,000+ units, which is what live action big releases move (Transformers 115, Spiderman 130, Pirates 160, etc, etc).

I think until more market penetration is achieved, this trend will continue. Most of the buyers right now fall into the male, ages teen to 40 or whatever gap. But I'm sure once more and more families get these in their homes, especially with Disney movies, animation will really take off.

I wouldn't worry that much about Blade Runner or the Potters. With Blu-ray's massive advantage in install base(thank you PS3), those will increasingly skew Blu as the weeks go on. Sales at Best Buy seem to have massive impact on the numbers though. I knew the HD DVD fanboys were desperate for some BOGO action but I'm surprised the Simpsons didn't hit number one. I guess Fox's typical expensive pricing hurt the sales of this title.
